Lord Huron's first and second album. Finally found what I have been looking for. Indie folk and rock.
"These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have distress: but have confidence, I have overcome the world." John 16:33

ELO's my favorite secular band. Unfortunately they are kind of in a schism with each other - the Lead Singer replacing pretty much everyone else in "Jeff Lynne's the Electric Light Orchestra" and a few of the living members in "The Orchestra". I saw the latter in concert and it was awesome (and they are the better band - Jeff Lynne's face doesn't equal the talent of the rest of the band).

When I want some happiness, I'll turn on this song.
May God forgive me for my consistent sins of the flesh and any blasphemous and carnal desire, as well as forgive me whenever I act prideful, against the desire of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to be a Temple of the Holy Spirit.

Perhaps not quite as great as their last proper album, but "Give it Back" is as good a song about spiritual aridity as you'll ever find from a "pop" music band.  :)

But surely Jeff Lynne has the greater talent, because he wrote all the songs.  ELO aren't one of my favorite bands, but I do think they have several truly great songs.  I have been working on making a "Top 100" (or possibly "Top 200") "of all time" on Spotify, and ELO has one song on it.  It's a definite masterpiece.  It's one of those "three and a half minutes of perfection" type of songs, and it's Jeff Lynne's finest vocal performance.  His vocal is what might best be described as "boss."

I think this is a fitting song for traditional Catholics considering the state of the Church in our times and all this talk about infallibility and indefectibility, think what you want about the Grateful Dead and their message and their fans.

Because Heaven knows we need a little levity every now and then, especially with the news being the way it is.  :)

A folk song about one of the lesser-known apparitions of Our Lady.
