Were there diocesan priests here in the States who defied their bishops' or the government's orders?
"loose lips sink ships"

But I sure hope so!

At first I thought this was a diocesan or independent priest, but it appears he is with the Society:

Regarding dioceses, not individual priests:

In  any case, the point is that this was another massive failure in leadership by the US bishops; I can't speak for bishops in other countries, but judging from a distance, they don't look better.  In my searches to answer your question, Lynne, I ran across shameful statements by bishops (Timothy Dolan and others) that criticized laity for virtuously going the distance (literally) to fulfill the Third Commandment, which is a First Tablet Commandment, meaning, of course, that it is absolute. To tell the (literally) faithful that they should not follow their consciences and natural law and divine law by traveling to find Masses is to do the devil's work, without exaggeration. Timothy Dolan will not be present at my Particular Judgment, and I will not be going to Hell for him.

Fathers Soos and Robinson, also of the Society, successfully sued the NY and NJ governments too.
In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael’s Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

“My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you’re supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen.”

This is SSPX priest Fr. Burfitt who comes down to serve as our mission priest in San Diego on Sundays. I started a thread on his fight when it started, and you started another when he won his case.

[Matthew 8:26]  And Jesus saith to them: Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith? Then rising up he commanded the winds, and the sea, and there came a great calm.

[Job  38:1-5]  Then the Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind, and said: [2] Who is this that wrappeth up sentences in unskillful words? [3] Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and answer thou me. [4] Where wast thou when I laid up the foundations of the earth? tell me if thou hast understanding. [5] Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Jesus, Mary, I love Thee! Save souls!

Please pray for him.

God bless him.

I am so lucky that here in Switzerland the Churches have never really been closed, at most you have to register online (but that's only for the SSPX and not the FSSP).

I'm not getting the impression that Timothy Dolan is saying stay away from mass. Or that he favors the situation with limited access. Unless someone can find another article that says differently, I don't believe it.

I note is that this Cavan diocesan priest apparently wants the 'far-right' to stay away and his Novus Ordo is meant for locals not outsiders. Foolish to refuse backing, given how pathetic Irish bishops have been. Only laity have made efforts through court cases. Government has two weeks to discover in the Ganley case if they've a right to close churches.

Yes, I'm aware of that and followed those closely.  You asked in a follow-up to my post about diocesan priests.   ;)

Irish government now adamant that for a priest or parishioner to leave house for a Mass which is not a wedding or funeral, is an offence.

Mehole, crude trend on Twitter passed on a pun of the Irish name Michéal

Forgive me, but that pious, impious ghoul deserves no charity.

Apparently Mass after May

This is a mix of a calculated insult to Irish Catholics for whom Easter is the most sacred part of the year with a sop to low info boomers who are mostly nominal Catholics but 'like the new young priest' and go there at Christmas, maybe Easter because their daughter's child had made her First Holy Communion earlier.
