There's a Voyageur Provincial Park on the Ottawa River close to the
Macdonell-Williamson House at Pointe Fortune. The Macdonell-Williamson House was built by
John Macdonell who was a wintering partner for the North West Company in the Qu’Appelle valley, which is now in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The North West Company was a fur trading company that was in competition with the Hudson Bay Company at the time.
Miles Macdonell, John's older brother was the first governor of the
Red River Colony (the Selkirk Settlement).
In the United States there is also the
Voyageurs National Park on Rainy River close to International Falls, north of Duluth, Minnesota. "The park's name commemorates the voyageurs—French-Canadian fur traders ..."
