Happy Feast of St. Joseph!
« on: March 19, 2021, 12:39:23 PM »
Especially to fellow Canadians, may he guide our country and lead us out of the darkness.
All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.

"Let a man walk ten miles steadily on a hot summer's day along a dusty English road, and he will soon discover why beer was invented."

G.K. Chesterton

Not a Canadian, but you are blessed to have St. Joseph as your patron.  May he guide you well.

St. Joseph is also the patron of the Universal Church, as Pope Pius IX affirmed in 1870:  https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/quemadmodum-deus-20726.

St. Joseph pray for us all!

Pray for someone I know named Joe who is in special need.
[Matthew 8:26]  And Jesus saith to them: Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith? Then rising up he commanded the winds, and the sea, and there came a great calm.

[Job  38:1-5]  Then the Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind, and said: [2] Who is this that wrappeth up sentences in unskillful words? [3] Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and answer thou me. [4] Where wast thou when I laid up the foundations of the earth? tell me if thou hast understanding. [5] Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Jesus, Mary, I love Thee! Save souls!

St. Joseph the greatest saint after Our Lady!
« Reply #6 on: March 19, 2021, 10:14:27 PM »
Happy feast of St. Joseph, the greatest saint after Our Lady!

Leo XIII, Quamquam pluries, August 15th, 1899, written to proclaim St. Joseph patron of the universal Church, argues that St. Joseph's eminent sanctity is due to the graces of the sacrament of matrimony:
Quote
The dignity of the Mother of God is so elevated that there can be no higher created one. But since St. Joseph was united to the Blessed Virgin by the conjugal bond, there is no doubt that he approached nearer than any other to that super-eminent dignity of hers by which the Mother of God surpasses all created natures. Conjugal union is the greatest of all (coniugium societas necessitudoque omnium maxima); by its very nature it is accompanied by a reciprocal communication of the goods of the spouses. If then God gave St. Joseph to Mary to be her spouse He certainly did not give him merely as a companion in life, a witness of her virginity, a guardian of her honor, but He made him also participate by the conjugal bond (coniugali fśdere) in the eminent dignity which was hers.
(quoted in Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P., Mother of the Saviour and Our Interior Life, ch. 7)

According to St. Alphonsus Liguori Sermon 10 for the Feast of St. Joseph, "divisus est" (1 Cor. 7:33) didn't apply to his marriage:
Quote
It is true that he had a great love for his spouse Mary; but his was not a divided love, although, as the apostle says, the heart of the husband is usually divided. “But he that has a wife is solicitous for the things of the world, how he may please his wife and he is divided.”—1 Cor. 7:33. No, the love which he felt for his spouse, filled him still more with divine love and therefore, we cannot doubt that Joseph whilst he lived with Jesus Christ, increased so much in sanctity and merits, that we may say he excels all the other saints.
