Liturgical Year 15 Volume Set 1904 Reprint
« on: December 31, 2018, 03:34:33 PM »
If anybody's interested, I just came across this traditional catholic books publisher and they have this gem for 215$ now. It is an original reprint. They also sell slightly defective sets for much less.

If one ever wonders how many a Traditional priest has put together a great sermon on a particular Feast day, chock full of interesting facts and inspiring thoughts, he probably put it together with The Liturgical Year's entry for that feast as a good foundation.

highly recommend.

I went on archive.org and the Liturgical Year is simply a whole Mass and Breviary with commentary from Gueranger. Isn't St. Andrew Missal basically a short version in small print?

Martin, have you never seen TLY in person? It's a treasure, friend.

Yes you are right. After looking more thoroughly I have to agree. There is so much there.
What do you think of the Daily Breviary Meditations by Bishop Angrisani?
It is also sold by the same publisher.

I have no experience with it, unfortunately.

My friend has used it, but she said it's mainly geared towards priests.  You can get some mileage out of it as a layman, but it's still mostly sacerdotally-minded.

I purchased The Loreto Press edition of The Liturgical Year, and it has been most excellent in helping me improve my spiritual life and devotion. I cannot recommend it more highly.

What I do not like is that nobody seems to be printing it in hardcover. What's up with that? It's basically an encyclopedia, and encyclopedias are supposed to be nice and heavy and durable, not cheap flimsy paperbacks. Especially for $200+.

Fortunately, somebody on Suscipe Domine sold me a hardbound set a while back. So I personally don't have to worry about it. Still, I wish someone would reprint it in hardback. (It used to be available from St. Bonaventure Publications ( http://libers.com/ ) but it's "currently out of print" and I have no idea if or when they plan to make more.)

I spoke to the folks at St. Bonaventure Publications a while back, and was told that their printing costs had tripled, and that they would not, as a result, be reprinting it. Have you looked into The Loreto edition? It is what I have (in hardcover).

I called the publisher and he said it is a very costly endeavor. Just think about it. How many people would buy the whole set for 350 or more?
Loreto Pubs sells it for $469.00

I see. I guess that's understandable.

Regarding Loreto - I was aware of their softcover set but did not know that they also had a hardcover version available. That's good to know.

IMHM nothing bits a physical book. I could never part with my hardbound volumes  :) However kindle e-reader has its pros.
