books by Franciscan and Dominican saints
« on: November 06, 2018, 08:36:51 AM »
Hi- I have a member of our US military who is looking for books related to the Franciscan Order, the Dominican Order, and the Ukrainian Church.   He is especially interested in the Saints and their writings.   If you could give me any suggestions along these lines, I would appreciate it very much.
I ship books to military, and I saw this request that was right up my alley  :)

Some of these aren't exactly within your request...

https://www.amazon.com/Life-St-Francis-Assisi-Classics/dp/0895551519/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1541519104&sr=8-4&keywords=St.+Bonaventure

(historical fiction focusing on a fictional Dominican. Very lovely read. I love SMC's [Sister Mary Catherine] writing)
https://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Thomas-Frith-OP/dp/0999243233/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541519238&sr=8-1&keywords=The+chronicles+of+thomas+frith

Another historical fiction about a Benedictine brother who comes back to life in modern times [1940's] and is sustained by the continuity of Tradition. I let a very studious Fraternity priest borrow this. He commented that he doesn't read fiction but would give it a go. He LOVED it:

St. Maximilian Kolbe:

Gardener, would you recommend those two historical fiction novels for kids, say aged 11-14?

Yes, though they might be a little high level for an 11 year old. SMC was a well educated Dominican nun and her writings definitely have layers.

Might consider them for a family, out-loud read so they can ask questions?
