Had a lot of issues with my printer not being recognized. Thought it was Windows 10 at first then sent it back for repair. Turned out to be oxidized or corroded USB connections on the USB printer cable.
Several hours wasted.
I have a desktop and it is in a log cabin-office in my garden. Heated 5 days out of 7 mind you so not particularly damp or cold, though I am there breathing for 8 to 10 hours and then leave, so it does get a little overnight condensation as there is not a simple way to vent it.
If you ever have USB "device not recognized" issues, check the contact on the cables and look for corrosion.
