Being British I cannot judge how serious this is for America.

If this were a British general I'd be seriously worried - but knowing how
excitable people are in the US it may just be a lot of hot air.  ;)

London: The timeline of motorway construction

Interesting.

As a young Scientific Officer at RRL I had the job of analysing the lean
concrete cube test results for the M1.

The coefficient of variation in strength was around 35%
It should have been around 10%.

When Glanville read my report he wrote on the cover "Not for publicatiion."

Needless to say, 5 years later the motorway started to break up and
the whole thing had to be rebuilt using proper lean mix concrete this time.
Some of the older forum members might remember the huge disruption
this caused.

I suppose I have some sympathy for Glanville. You don't finish up your
career as Sir William Glanville if you start making waves.

Later in my time at RRL when our test cores revealed an unmixed layer
between the top and bottom soil stabilised layers of the Ross Spur
I made damn sure the the resident engineer couldn't ignore the defect.
He dug a trench across the full width of the road.
Hoping it was an isolated case he dug another trench 10 yards further on.
Then another ....and another......and another....

By the time he'd finished it looked like defence in depth on the Somme.

Eventually he was convinced and he yelled, "Stop the job. Stop the job"
.. and all the massive scrapers, bulldozers and giant rotavators ground
to a halt.

Pity someone couldn't have convinced the people responsible
that sending astronauts up with frozen O-rings wasn't a good idea.

If they had they wouldn't have Needed Another Seven Astronauts

CUTS FOR STORY NUMBER 80653 - The "Ross Motorway" which will link Tewkesbury to Ross-on-Wye is inspected by Mr Ernest Marples (Minister of Transport) - under construction. VS Mr Marples looking at construction work and out over canal. Bridges under construction. Mr Marples looks at plans for the road and at the bridge itself. Sign reads: "Ministry of Transport - Ross Spur Motorway - Gloucestershire County Council." Pan to show road. Building work. Mr Marples. POV shot from driver's seat as Mr Marples travels along the road. Various shots of Marples and his entourage, building works, road building, bridge construction, Marples shaking hands with members of the workforce.

I seemed to remember there was something dodgy about Marples so
I looked up Wiki.

Quote
Use of prostitutes
When Lord Denning made his 1963 investigation into the security aspects of the Profumo affair and the rumoured affair between the Minister of Defence, Duncan Sandys, and the Duchess of Argyll, he confirmed to Macmillan that a rumour that Ernest Marples was in the habit of using prostitutes appeared to be true.[19] In early 2020, the rumours were corroborated by broadcaster and investigative journalist Tom Mangold, based on the diaries of Lord Denning's then-secretary, Thomas Critchley. The diaries reported the transport minister's fetish for being whipped while dressed in women's clothing, as described in great detail by one of the prostitutes who had provided these services to Marples, and confirmed at the time by her detailed knowledge of the interior of Marples' home where the events took place.[20] The story was suppressed and did not appear in Denning's final report.[21]

Flight to Monaco
Early in 1975 Marples suddenly fled to Monte Carlo.[22] He left just before the end of the tax year, fearing that he would otherwise be liable for a substantial tax bill.[22]

They used to say Monte Carlo or bust.  Marples seems to have had both.  >: :D

This guy's a riot. He has a video where he goes to London and is outraged at all the Englishmen he sees. He screams lyrics to Rebel songs out the window.

If God can have Padre Pio in two places at once I'm sure he can sort out the
mess we are in.

We'll just have to trust our father like the young children that trust us.

Good bit about Pius XIII sic.
