Greetings!
« on: August 14, 2018, 12:57:04 AM »
Salutations, fellow Catholics!

I just thought I would introduce myself.

My name is George, but my friends sometimes call me by my middle name, which is Jerome. (Strangely fitting, because I tend towards the curmudgeonly, like the Saint of that name.)

Here's a little form I filled out as the Mods suggested:

What brings you to SD?
The opportunity to spend time with fellow like-minded (= orthodox) Catholics who take a no-nonsense approach towards the state of the Church these days.

Are you a member of other Internet fora?  If so, care to mention which one(s)?
Not really. I once tried registering at Fish Eaters but didn't hear from them for over 2 weeks, at which point I decided to give up. I also got unceremoniously booted from a "liberal" forum ("Catholic Answers") for posting some uncomplimentary things plain facts about "ecumenism" between Catholics and Moslems.

Why did you choose your username and avatar?
The username is simple, it's my given name and initial. (Fear not, the B doesn't stand for Bergoglio.  ;)) I still have to pick a nice avatar. Any suggestions?

What is your state of life - single, married, religious, or still discerning?
Married with two children (so far, that is.)

Whereabouts do you live "in real life"? (be as specific or as general as you wish!)
New Zealand. I'd say more, but I live in perpetual fear that our Socialist government will track me down and sentence me to 1,000 years hard labour in a sheep farm.

Personality type?
A psychiatrist I once met (as a friend, not professionally!) suggested "obsessive-compulsive", which I think is just a polite way of saying "self-absorbed Promethean neo-Pelagian".

Favorite books?
Iota Unum by Romano Amerio.
The Count of Monte Cristo (the only Dumas book to escape the Index, so it must be good...)

Favorite movies?
Not really a movie person. Perhaps "The Song of Bernadette"?

Favorite TV shows?
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, at least up till season 7 or so. It jumped the shark badly after that.

Favorite sports/teams
Cricket. (I'm not really a rugby aficionado, but don't tell my countrymen; they'd eat me alive and perform a haka over my corpse.)

Have any hobbies?
Online chess.

Pet peeves:
Pope Francis' in-flight interviews. Didn't his mama ever tell him that if he had nothing nice to say, he should, well....  ;D

Fun random fact about yourself:
My parents gave me the middle name Jerome because I was a cranky baby. (I did get better, Deo gratias.)

The Count of Monte Cristo is an excellent book.  One of my favorites. :):)

Welcome! I hope you feel at home here...
In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael’s Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

“My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you’re supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen.”

Welcome to the Forum; I hope you like it here.

"The World Must Conform to Our Lord and not He to it." Rev. Dennis Fahey CSSP

"My brothers, all of you, if you are condemned to see the triumph of evil, never applaud it. Never say to evil: you are good; to decadence: you are progess; to death: you are life. Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit." Welcome here.

Love Count of Monte Cristo!  Welcome. Hope this place is a good fit for you! CD
To board the struggle bus: no whining, board with a smile, a fake one will be found out and put off at next stop, no maps, no directions, going only one way, one destination. Follow all rules and you will arrive. Drop off at pearly gate. Bring nothing.

Thank you very much for your kind replies, all of you!

(I wasn't able to post earlier because I had to go out of town - family emergency of sorts. My humble excuses.)

Now, to look for a Kiwi.... (George Jr. is quite fond of the eponymous fruit, but I figure that's not what you were alluding to.) :)
