General News and Discussion / Re: Chinese dropping like flies

tin foil hat for the heck of it :)

its a dummy run for the real population cull
generate a vaccine to make billionaires trillionaires
cause a frenzy for the population to get brainwashed that the state is our saviour

any others?

On a side note, David, I had that flu over Christmas and still have remnants, an itch which shows up on hands and feet, mouth, crevices such as corner of the eye, nostril fold etc .  I'll pray for your family today at mass and I am asking Our Lady of China (I'm guessing there is a title) .

If he really resigned, heís a Bishop.

If he didnít, heís the Pope. Why would a bunch of new cardinals go get a blessing from a Bishop?

Admiration among other things. Humanly speaking, not all bishops are equal though they all have the same sacramental powers.  A lot of people have B16 as their hero of the Church whether as Cardinal and chief of the CDF or Pope.

From a similar and more pious angle, I'm willing to bet that a number of devout bishops probably would have wanted the blessing of Padre Pio who was simply a priest.

Plus the iconic factor of B16 being a former Pope which would be a good conversation anywhere. It's like having a copy of Fantastic Four #1 and getting Stan Lee to autograph it.

But it's really of no particular importance in the big picture, there's no real need to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land since it's just a part of the same planet we're all on.  There's nothing about the soil in Jerusalem, Egypt or Bethlehem that is particularly blessed or salvific even though the Lord actually walked there when He was incarnate.

And there's no "real" need to venerate or go visit the Holy Grail in Spain since you see the Holy Grail in person at every Mass.  But people do that stuff all the same for personal reasons.

I think that was just how they took selfies in the dinosaur age.

I watched the whole speech; Trump was awesome. This isn't saying anything, but he sounded more Catholic than Francis and the vast majority of the bishops.

Not a high bar.

Peers of any level of clergyman, present for a particular event, are often offered an opportunity to provide a blessing as an honor -- acknowledging their position, their Orders, etc.  (And of course that's true for men of higher rank as well.  It's just that I've seen it a lot -- the courtesy being extended to a fellow priest by the priest in charge.  Etc.)

Do they think he "has to" bless them or is it simply an honorary ceremony since there hasn't been a retired Pope for about 500 years?  More likely the latter.

I doubt that it has anything to do with "validating" Cardinals and therefore he must still be the Pope, since the validity of a Pope isn't necessarily dependent on their being a college of Cardinals at all.

A bishop could probably validly become Pope through trial by combat if he's the last one standing and is accepted as the bishop of Rome.  It would at least be a little more upfront than some of the valid papacies that were obtained through poisoning and bribery.

Truly in the heart there is a void that can not be removed except with the company of God. And in it there is a sadness that can not be removed except with the happiness of knowing God and being true to Him. And in it there is an emptiness that can not be filled except with love for Him and by turning to Him and always remembering Him. And if a person were given all of the world and what is in it, it would not fill this emptiness.

Traditional Catholic Discussion / Re: SSPX

I've been blessed to be close to a (regular) SSPX Mass in San Diego for years (it has moved around a bit from "better" (lovely chapel) to "worse" (mortuary) but no real sacrifice yet).
