What is everyone's opinion on the SSPX liturgical praxis regarding masses by their bishops? Things like the "pontifical missa cantata" or "pontifical missa solemnis" which don't exist in the traditional rubrics. Do you think that these matters are trivial? Just seems so strange that they seemingly don't care about such things.

Along with the sedevacantist groups as well. It comes from 1964, just before the worst of the Council. It is weird.

At least with most sede groups they essentially do a pontifical low mass but sing it instead (use the pontifical canon instead of altar cards, bugia on altar, chaplins etc). Because a "missa cantata" is just a sung low mass. What makes a mass "High" is the assistance of Deacon and Sub-Deacon.

What a stupid question. The SSPX isn't exactly booming with excess priests. They've essentially been forced to start from scratch. Not every Mass can afford to be a solemn high Mass, there simply isn't enough man power.

So maybe just be grateful for what we have instead of criticizing?
All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.

"Am I not here, I who am your mother?" Mary to Juan Diego

"Let a man walk ten miles steadily on a hot summer's day along a dusty English road, and he will soon discover why beer was invented." G.K. Chesterton

"Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill." Jesus Christ

Completely agree.

It's like the pre-55 vs 62 debate: I used to be very very anti 62 (and still think the pre-55 is "better" objectively) but have since come to appreciate there are more important things like being consistent in the reaction to the grave crisis we are currently in in the Church: and that the crisis is much deeper than Liturgical, even if this is by far the most obvious external sign afflicting the Church.

The reasons for the usage of the 62 by Abp. Lefebre and the society is sound, even if it is not "ideal".

Nothing is "ideal" in this crisis we have been in for the last 70 years.

We are no longer in an "ideal" situation today - and salvation of our souls is more important than questions such as whether a pontifical missa cantata is good or not.
