No, no, no.

Christmas season is still weeks away.

It's bad enough when the stores start right after Halloween, but it's even worse when the Catholics do it.

I actually don't decorate until Christmas Eve and prefer to celebrate Advent before Christmas.  And you are right about Christmas in the stores.  Locally stuff was up even before Halloween.

My exception is Christmas music, because I love it and could happily listen to it year round.

I wasn't actually about to put Jingle Bells on, guys, don't worry!  ;)

But it's an interesting point because a) Catholic choirs would probably have to start practice now for December carols and b) we can pray and meditate on the Nativity at any point in the year - Third Joyful mystery and all- so why not listen to music that also reflects that?

I do try to make the family hold off until mid-December for putting the tree up, and in recent years I've been really working on celebrating the full 12 days, not just Christmas and Boxing Day.

Oh, does anyone else treat Advent as a kind of mini-Lent? As kids, we always gave things up as for Lent and woe betide anyone who ate any Christmas food before the day itself!
To Jesus through Mary.

Remember the Holy Souls!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I don't care what anyone says. It's Advent tomorrow, so it's time for this  8)

The Huron Carol - Canada's oldest Christmas Carol.  It was written by Jesuit missionary St. Jean de Brebeuf to the Huron people in 1643.  This is an English version sung by the Canadian Tenors.

I think Tom Jackson does a real nice job of the Huron Carol too.

O Mary, Immaculate Mother of Jesus, offer, we beseech thee, to the Eternal Father, the Precious Blood of thy Divine Son to prevent at least one mortal sin from being committed somewhere in the world this day.
