Surprising how far North in Scotland the Roman Legions reached.
A lot of interesting archeological discoveries.

Septimius Severus and others overran almost the entire island, or the entire island, the only problem was the peoples of the Highlands could never be brought to any sort of proper battle. Maximius Thrax fought a battle far into Germany. Quite possibly, instead of the usual forward defence or incursions, he might have considered neatening the Roman borders by taking more of Germany, and perhaps not have sent Pope Pontian and  Hippolytus of Rome to the mines.
