His victories were insane. For example, at the Battle of Walaja, he managed to crush a Sassanid army twice the size of his army by pulling off a double envelopment - the same maneuver Hannibal pulled off at Cannae. A very difficult feat. The only real generals that are close to him IMO are Subotai, Caesar, and Alexander. And, like those three generals, his victories were a necessary condition for the vast empire he helped create.

Are you a muslim?

Insofar as one can be a Muslim while actively inquiring into Catholicism, yes I am a practicing Muslim.

Mister Cowboy

I hope we can help each other during your stay here.

If you're willing to know I chose my name of "Mister Cowboy" because it is my desire to be a crusader in America. There's a lot of evil in America and I intend to combat it all with God's help. If we can change the hearts of the American people we can change the world. But if we lose this war and lose these all these battles we'll be in for some tough times.

Welcome!

I read Dune a few months ago, and just finished Dune Messiah a week or so ago.

I enjoyed watching the Spice Diver fan cut of the Lynch Dune movie.

Do you have a link to the Spice Diver cut? That sounds interesting. Especially if the deleted scenes were put back in.

Khalid,
I would add that Hannibal to that list of great Generals. Khalid sounds like a military genius; I will have to look up his battles on youtube.

Hannibal was brilliant too, but had one grave failure: he lost. Both on the strategic level and, at Utica against Scipio Africanus, in battle as well. In that regard he's quite similar to Napoleon, a brilliant tactician but not a brilliant strategist.

He did lose in his final battle; he had no hope of winning by the third Punic War; and this battle was suited perfectly for the Roman Army, as Hannibal could not maneuver his men or deceive the Romans; it was simply a set piece let the best army win (Rome, of course).
