I missed the questionnaire!

What brings you to SD? I was invited by Kaese.

Are you a member of other Internet fora?  If so, care to mention which one(s)? Fisheaters and Society for Christian Orthodoxy

Why did you choose your username and avatar? My username is in honor of Our Lady. My avatar is a photo of cherry blossoms. I just think they're pretty, though their symbolism in Japanese poetry of the transience of life is nice too, I guess.  ;)

What is your state of life - single, married, religious, or still discerning? I'm single.

Whereabouts do you live "in real life"? (be as specific or as general as you wish!) Texas

Personality type? ENTJ

Favorite books? I like 19th century literature and historical fiction

Favorite movies? Classic Hollywood, Independent, and European films

Favorite TV shows? Mexican-American telenovelas

Favorite sports/teams? I don't really follow professional sports.

Have any hobbies? I like cooking, reading, learning foreign languages, swimming, dancing, and horseback riding. I'm thinking I might like to learn to play the guitar.

Pet peeves: Bad manners, being overly critical or argumentative

Fun random fact about yourself: Hmmm... Can't really think of anything.

Put not your trust in princes, in sons of men in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs he returns to his earth; on that very day his plans perish.

Love your user name!  Just learned that phrase from my Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the last 2 weeks.

You should use the Oxford comma in that so people can understand what you mean: "Pet peeves: Bad manners, being overly critical, or argumentative",

I don't think the Oxford comma makes sense there. I think Ancilla is trying to say that one of her pet peeves is when people are overly critical or when they are overly argumentative. Therefore, "being overly critical or argumentative" is one item in the series, with the adverb 'overly' being applied to both the adjective 'critical' and the adjective 'argumentative.'

The list would be clearer overall if the items in the list were written with parallel structure, but I think Ancilla's meaning has come across fine the way she has written it. At the very least, her comma placement makes perfect sense to me.

(I'm aware that my post may well be an example of someone being overly critical or argumentative.)

I may be wrong, but I do believe Pæniteo was just being "overly critical or argumentative" as a joke.   ;)

Yes, now that I've found out who he is, I'm certain that that's the case--especially considering his love for proper use of language.
