"Poland could be the scene of the next traditionalist schism within the Roman Catholic Church, a leading intellectual on the conservative wing of the church writes."

I hope my title wasn't overly sensationalist, I'm copying from the news source.

I don't mean to appear ignorant, but didn't the Polish Catholic Church already separate from the Roman Church?

There is a "Polish Catholic Church" which is an Old Catholic church....but this article is referring to the Roman Church in Poland

Yes, I am disappointed in the number of Polish commentators that set this up as a "John Paul II vs. Francis" thing; that may incidentally be true, but the real issue is a "immemorial doctrine and practice of Roman Church vs. Francis" thing - it just happens to be an area in which John Paul was on the side of Tradition.
What shall we call you, O full of grace? * Heaven? for you have shone forth the Sun of Righteousness. * Paradise? for you have brought forth the Flower of immortality. * Virgin? for you have remained incorrupt. * Pure Mother? for you have held in your holy embrace your Son, the God of all. * Entreat Him to save our souls.

I wonder what issue they're upset about -- Francis and JPII seem similar in many ways, at least to me.

Francis isn't kissing enough korans or praying with enough pagans for their tastes, I would imagine.

Sure, that's not 'old' Traditional.  But it's new traditional.

That's the thing about mutable truth.  It mutes.

6th Commandment related issues.

Is one of the topics that VC II conservatives and neocons tend to focus on.

That contributed to the image of "ultra-conservative" that JP II had in many places too.

Greg

Surely child sexual abuse falls under the sixth Commandment doesn't it?

Prayerful

I see it as some NO prelates see Pope Francis as going too far and lacking order in how he operates. They do have a closer resemblance to Catholics than Pope Francis, though.

Of course.

I was mentioning the image he had in some places and why some neocons see him like that.

In some circles JPII is seen as a champion of orthodoxy, for his stance on moral issues and opposition to women priests. In fact some have seen him as offering a "key" to integrating the Church with modernity, a tertium quid to Benedict's reactionaryism, and Francis' liberalism. His Theology of the Body, a "new" theology that is disconnected from Thomas and scholasticism, and yet still successful at defending orthodoxy -- it is a whole new model of being "church", a new way of being 100% orthodox while being hip and up-to-date.
