Do you have home altar?
Here is the one my family has for Our Lady in the living room.

I have a small Marian prayer shrine in the living room, with a large Serbian Orthodox triptych above and behind it on the wall (a gift from a friend who came from Serbia) which has been blessed by a Roman Catholic priest.
Yes. It is on the east wall of our dining room. I like the way it looks there (especially because we have some priceless to us family heirlooms like a very old, maybe 100 year old print of the sacred heart) but honestly we don't do a lot of praying there as a family. We do most of our praying in the master bedroom at the foot of our bed. We also have a crucifix there on the wall. I think we need a prie dieu or something.
Here's one, when everything is like it's supposed to be.

Nice!
I now have plants in gold colored planters on either side of the altar. You can't see the plant with the angel praying underneath. I get teased that the whole house is an altar because of the religious pictures and statues throughout the house. But this is where we say our rosary and I say my prayers. I'd like to get a kneeler to go with it as well. I wish I knew how to paint well or put up some kind of border, but that is not in my realm of abilities. Maybe hire someone? Someday...

That is very nice. If you don't mind, what are the two reeds crossed over your icons?
One place to look is Ebay. I designed two and had them made. We imported one from England (andythorton.com). Also fynderskeepers.com has them from time to time. If you want to have one built, kingrichards.com does quality work, and I don't mean a cnc machine.

Willow branches - my Ruthenian parish has them in addition to the palms. Palm trees weren't easy to come by in the Carpathian mountains and other Slavic territories, so willow branches were often used instead. The Slavs often call Palm Sunday "Flowery Sunday" for this reason.

Referring to the 12 Great Feasts and Pascha. The 12 feasts are (in order of the Byzantine ecclesiastical year) Nativity of the Theotokos, Exaltation of the Cross, Presentation of the Theotokos, Christmas, Theophany, Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, Annunciation, Palm Sunday, Ascension, Pentecost, Transfiguration, and Dormition of the Theotokos, with Pascha being the "Feast of Feasts." There are five other feasts celebrated as Great Feasts but not counted among the 12: the Protecting Veil of the Theotokos (Oct 1), the Circumcision, Nativity of the St. John the Baptist, Saints Peter and Paul, and the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. In Church services, the icon of a feast is venerated with processions and incensations, in addition to devotional veneration as people pass by it.

Very neat. Thank you!
Is this a big Eastern devotion?
I don't know how many people have all of the festal icons - I just want them! They are a good way of talking about the feasts with the kiddos. I would like to get a separate stand for my books and use the current shelf-top stand to place the seasonal icon on.

My heart is moved by these beautiful, humble, holy altars.
Years ago we rescued a statue of our BVM and a bas relief of the Lord's Supper at a pagan's antique store. The store was in a rural area that had masonic temples and cemeteries in each of the small towns surrounding. They had been in an old church that was wreckovated. Our Mother was gathering dust in the back room, and the bas relief was in the basement on the floor.
They are part of our altar area now.

We too rescued a piece of Catholic art. It was in a small warehouse behind a Catholic shop. It is a four and half foot statue of the Sacred Heart Jesus. It is a Cadillac of Sacred Heart. Made by an artist who allowed only a few made with his mold and then he wrecked the mold. If I remember right, and it is stamped on the statue in the back, I think it is a DaPrada. 100 bucks. He is the heart and soul of our home and has been for 20 yrs. Thanks God!

And there is SO MUCH of this stuff out there! My mother scoops up religious images at those kinds of places. The most horrifying story, though was my mother-in-law venturing into the basement of a wreckovated church. The high altar had been smashed to pieces, and the statuary was just piled up in the basement along with heaps of old books.
Worst though, was a reliquary, containing a finger bone, thrown in the heap with no documentation. In the iconoclastic spirit of the 70s, all that documentation was "swept out" - so we really have no idea whose finger it was! My MIL took the reliquary into her home for several years; I believe a new bishop eventually took custody of the relics to try to ascertain their provenance. She has sadly found
several reliquaries tossed in church basements. The others, fortunately, were still labeled and documented. It makes me think I should investigate churches that have been wreckovated - who knows what's still down in basements just down the road from me!
Do you just call around and ask churches if they have anything in their basements or storages? How would one make a prie dieu?

Calling around is not a bad idea, angelcookie. Start w/ churches, then broaden out to antique stores, resale stores and even estate sales.
Re: prie dieu, if you keep an eye out via google searches, you'll find a decent antique or second hand. If you want to build it yourself, do a search for "how to build a prie dieu" or "prayer kneeler".
If you do so, please post a pic!
Per Evangelica, I notice that too. When we bring an item into our home we not only make a home for it, but it makes itself at home. Part of our lives.

Probably one of my favorite altar photos from June

Lent

That is amazing, Traditionallyruralmom! My home altar has been the same for about 25 years, other than to add object from those who have died. I never thought of changing with the liturgical seasons. Time to recontemplate!

Love, love the statues. I change the main painting above the altar occasionally with the season, but Traditionallyruralmom has really given me some inspiration. Wow! Beautiful.

:)
Yes, this is what I do! It is my main form of seasonal decoration in the home. Our altar is an old buffet, so many of the items I use to decorate are stored within. The rest is in the basement. I have more photos, lovely photos of when we had Mass said on our altar. I will have to see if I can find them and share them. I love to decorate my altar. My girls are my own personal altar and rosary society. We are always looking out for things to use for our altar.
Right now for the Rosary crusade I have a cork board to the right of our altar with an Immaculate heart on it. I have rose pins that we use to keep track of daily sacrifices, and a hanging wooden holder to hold the tally booklet. I will have to share a photo. My children love the altar, and we try to pray at it every day. Some nights are lazy and late, so the rosary is said on the couch, but most of the time it is at the altar.

Officially my favorite thread.
Hope I did this right, but this is our sacred heart and mother corner. The focal point for living room. Oh, so tiny! Will try to fix.

Hope I don't get in trouble for revivg an older thread, but here are some images I put up for Lent:

The image of the Virgin is the Virgin of the Annunciation by Carlo Dolci, but to me she looks melancholy, so I use the image as an image for Our Lady of Sorrows.

It is very nice SagradoCorazon. I love this thread and wouldn't mind seeing it revived.
I like this thread too :)
I love that picture of the Blessed Mother, Sagradocorazon. Thank you for identifying it.

Yes, the picture is beautiful. It was actually the cover for a free booklet I unexpectedly received along with something that I ordered. I tore it off the booklet and cut off the title (hence the slightly curved top). Then I framed it. Here are some more Carlo Dolci paintings:

Wow! What a gifted artist he was. I love seeing paintings that truly lift your heart to God. Not everyone can do that. I don't blame you for taking the opportunity to frame that one.

I'm hoping to add a row of the festal icons and icons of each of our patron saints. The book stand is on top of my "liturgical bookshelf," so I have access to everything.
That is very nice. If you don't mind, what are the two reeds crossed over your icons?
Willow branches - my Ruthenian parish has them in addition to the palms. Palm trees weren't easy to come by in the Carpathian mountains and other Slavic territories, so willow branches were often used instead. The Slavs often call Palm Sunday "Flowery Sunday" for this reason.
In Rome, they do Olive branches. ;)
I don't have a home altar: I just have a crucifix, and a wooden decoupage placque of Our Lady of Good Counsel that I'm particularly attached to. I put it and a rosary next to my grandma's bed during her last illness, both at home and when she went to the hospice. :pray3:
If I ever had children, I would set up a home altar, just to help incorporate the Faith into their lives more fully. It seems like an excellent way to help children really internalize truths of the Faith.

Absolutely beautiful. I love full blown color, but not garish. Can be a thin line, but I can spot garish all day long. Than you for these. The first blows my mind. It is so regal.

The relic holder, unfortunately, doesn't have anything in it. I wanted to buy a nice relic on E-bay, but then I got scruples about it, so I never did. I also intended to put a hook in the ceiling for the red lamp. Of course there is no blessed sacrament. But it would be nice to have a candle burning if you had a 1st-class relic.

Not to brag, but they're all good quality vintage rosaries, mostly bought from E-bay. I don't believe one should use cheap, junky rosaries, especially not plastic.

 Vintage rosaries from eBay, ftw. Though Our Blessed Lady
did bring me to a love of the Rosary via a cheap, junky plastic rosary...but if I had my druthers, "cheap" would just mean wood and cord. ;)
C'mon, Maximilian, post pics of your favorite rosaries in the recently-resurrrected "Favorite Rosaries!" thread, so that we (and by "we," I mostly mean I) can drool over them. For science.

The two paintings are Fra Angelico (The Coronation of Mary; St. Dominic), picture is from the Elevation of the Host at Fr. Brian McDonnell's (FSSP) first Mass.

Wow! So rich in color and also very inspiring images, Non. I love them.
This is my icon corner.
It is a little modest, unfortunately - I don't really have access to significant money resources - but I think it's nice.
The candle holders have an icon of the Holy Family and Our Lady Jerusalem.
Keep in mind that I stand when I pray, and I am a tall individual (nobody else in the house really uses it unfortunately).

I'll add more icons later, but I chose Saint Matthew and Saint Michael because Saint Matthew is whom I was named after (and was my Baptism name) and Saint Michael was my Confirmation Saint.
I also organized it so everyone is facing towards the Crucifixion.
