Morality of investments
« on: October 14, 2021, 06:29:25 AM »
Are we as Catholics supposed to avoid investing in business that engage in immoral activity?

For example: The Walt Disney Company openly promotes homosexuality. Is it is a sin to invest in that stock?

Yes, indirectly.

Buying and holding a company's stock keeps its share price high.  A high share price enables the company to issue more stock to raise capital and expand operations, if necessary.  Therefore, owning a company's stock helps the company to advance its mission.  Owning a company that promotes abortion or queer filth is cooperation with the company's mission.

The degree of the owner's culpability is open for debate and would be subject to the usual logic regarding cooperation with evil.

Some problems with Ave Maria Funds: it underperforms the S&P 500, has a huge expense ratio, and invests in companies that engage in LGBT Pride propaganda. Frankly I think you'd have to be a retard to invest in that.

Huh.  Who knew.  There are probably some better funds that don't.
