Yes. One of the best accounts of the Desmond Rebellion I've read is Richard Berleth's "The Twilight Lords". He quotes extensively from O'Donovan's translation of The Masters. Seamus MacManus claims that the O'clerys and O'Mulcony were the last speakers of the Ancient Bardic dialect and hoped to preserve the names of the great Gaelic lords lest they be forgotten.

Actually CELT (Corpus of Electronic Texts) has a very large assortment of Irish papers uploaded and available to read.  From The Annals of Ulster, to The Annals of Tigernach, to The Annals of Inisfallen, to Annals of the Four Masters and on and on; the list is huge.

That wikipedia page mentions Lebor Gabála Érenn, which is "The Book of the Taking of Ireland".  I did a search for it on CELT but it didn't bring up the one that I read.  What I'm referring to is the Milesian Genealogies; the web site below is the one that I was looking for.  It does say "from the Annals of the Four Masters".  It starts off by saying "Most of the Irish are descended from one of the three sons of Milesius who had issue. These are the Milesian genealogies."  It goes on to list how different Irish Clans, and Scottish Clans are interrelated.  Very cool.

There is also another site that lists the Ard Reys of Ireland back to Milesius' sons.  It was said that Lia Fáil would roar with joy when the rightful king was crowned at Tara.  I'll post it if I can find it.

Ireland has one of the oldest, non Latin literary culture, although the literati of this society had no difficulty with Latin, and some even had Greek. A vast amount was scattered or destroyed or hidden during the Cromwellian wars, so the Drummond Missal which was possibly a liturgical book for Glendalough and churches under it and the Stowe Missal, two pre-Norman liturgical books ended up overseas.

Prayerful did you know devotedknuckles when he posted in the Fish Eaters forum?  He owned and operated an antiquarian bookstore in downtown Toronto.  Mostly religious books.  He used to say some monks were his best customers.  He was originally from Ireland.  It sounds like you and him had a lot in common.
