During the war, when Yokohama was firebombed, soldiers came and made onigiri for the townspeople as part of the relief effort. My grandma said that they were the biggest onigiri she'd ever seen, and how happy she was to get them, even though she didn't particularly like them before. I like umeboshi ones, sprinkled with sesame salt, or brushed with soy sauce and toasted in the oven for a little bit.
