Family Life / Vehicles and Car Seats Don't B...
Last post by MushroomRooster - Today at 09:39:23 PM

I think a school bus or shuttle bus might be an option because passenger vans are expensive where we live, second-hand of course. And the ridiculous amount of taxes even if we buy out of province. 4x4 (all-wheel drive) is a must because of the Canadian winters. Another option is buying two 7-seater vans. Just thinking about the future. In our current sedan, the car seat is so bulky that you can basically put two in the back really.

Quote from: MushroomRooster on Today at 02:25:18 PMI'd like to buy them but I live in Canada and the shipping was just too much.

True story:

I ordered books once off of TAN and had them shipped to Vancouver.

Took like 10 weeks.

For some unknown reason, they were shipped from the Carolinas to Malmo, Sweden, to Cinci, to Toronto to Vancouver (I know from all the stamps on the box).

The best part is my brother was studying in Malmo, Sweden at the time and arrived 2 weeks before the books. Should have shipped them to him had I known better.

I promise that's a true story. TAN ain't getting my business again (except via Amazon) with that nonsense.

Wow! I have actually bought some of their books from Amazon and at least I get free shipping.

General News and Discussion / Re: RIP Brooks Robinson

Quote from: Michael Wilson on Today at 03:33:48 PMI remember Brooks from his playing days; it appeared to me that absolutely no balls ever got past him, and he had a great throw to first also. I am happy to hear that he became a Catholic.
May he rest in peace.  :pray2:
He sure stole a lot of hits from the Big Red Machine in the 1970 Series. Iirc, he also batted around .426 in the Series, which Baltimore won.

Quote from: andy on September 22, 2023, 04:45:34 PMBIOSes have been locked up for a while now and are running proprietary code forced by hardware manufactures.

There is no pure open source anymore.

I'm with Linus on this one.

I find it to be absolute craziness that some people are forcing people to use only open source hardware.

Why? Why should software developers dictate what hardware manufacturers can and can't do?

If you want to use open source hardware, go right ahead, just don't force me to do it.

Nobody is forcing you to go with open hardware. The point is that if you want an ultimate security, there must be a way to see how every piece of the system is working. And the fear is, in the long run, that not having totally open hardware platforms will eventually prevent that transparency.

Personally, as said before, "The darkest place is under the candlestick though.". It is be so easy to detect and single out individuals using non standard systems to the point is not worth it. In fact YOU, not your system becomes a weakest link.

That sounds like the same route politically incorrect medicines take.

The reading appointed from the Rule of St. Benedict for September 28:

CHAPTER VII
Of Humility (cont.)

We are, indeed, forbidden to do our own will by Scripture, which saith to us: turn away from thine own will. And so too we beg of God in prayer that His will may be done in us. Rightly therefore are we taught not to do our own will, if we take heed to the warning of Scripture: "There are ways which to men seem right, but the ends thereof lead to the depths of hell"; or, again, when we tremble at what is said of the careless: "They are corrupt and have become abominable in their pleasures." And in regard to the desires of the flesh, we must believe that God is always present to us, as the prophet saith to the Lord: "O Lord, all my desire is before Thee."

Martyrology-September 29th
Roman Martyrology-September 29th- on this date in various years-

On Mount Gargano, the commemoration of the blessed archangel Michael. This festival is kept in memory of the day when, under his invocation, there was consecrated a church, unpretending in its exterior, but endowed with celestial virtue.

At Auxerre, St. Fraternus, bishop and martyr.

In Thrace, the birthday of the holy martyrs Eutychius, Plautus, and Heracleas.

In Persia, the holy martyrs Dadas, a blood relative of King Sapor, Casdoa, his wife, and Gabdelas, his son. After being deprived of their dignities, and subjected to various torments, they were imprisoned for a long time and finally put to the sword.

In Armenia, under King Tiridates, the holy virgin Ripsimis and her martyr companions.

In Persia, under King Sapor, the holy martyr Gudelia. After converting many to the faith, and having refused to adore the sun and the fire, she was subjected to numerous torments. Having the skin torn off her head, and being fastened to a post, she merited an eternal triumph.

At Pontecorvo near Aquino, St. Grimoaldus, priest and confessor.

In Palestine, St. Quiriacus, an anchoret.

And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.
R. Thanks be to God.

Quote from: Bataar on September 26, 2023, 04:23:56 PMThe only problematic thing I've seen for Catholics in The Chosen is that Mary mentioned giving birth to Jesus was painful. That's it. I've watched the first two seasons multiple times and have only seen the most recent season once so maybe I missed some things there, but I recommend the show to everyone.

Granted, they could definitely screw it up later on, but as of now, it's been very good.

Did you watch the video?

Not all of it. When they were accusing the Chosen of mocking John the Baptist, I gave up on it. The Chosen does not mock John the Baptist. Simon does in the beginning, but it's not for the purpose of encouraging the audience or anything to disrespect John the Baptist. It's done to show where Simon is and his view on holy things in the beginning. It makes Simon look bad where he's at, not John the Baptist. The video is just digging for something that's not there with this argument.
