St Agnes

Today is the feast of St Agnes. She was a martyr of the 3rd century. In life she was known for being very beautiful, but her real beauty was in the purity of her soul which she deliverd up to God.

The pope marked the feast of St Agnes with the centuries old rite, the blessings of lambs from whose wool the Pallium will be made.

Here is more information on the blessing of lambs on the feast of St Agnes.
