Title: Greetings from Latin American who goes to Latin Traditional Mass
Post by: Aulef on December 09, 2020, 07:59:22 PM
Salve Maria,

I will follow the introduction formula but feel free to ask other questions. I am excited to be part of this forum.

What brings you to SD? While researching about personalism I found a very interesting topic here. Afterwards, I decided to look other topics and I liked the conversation level. So I realized I would learn a lot being part of SD. Besides, the other Catholic forum I participate will be shut down soon and I felt like finding a new one. Yes, you probably know which one it is...
Are you a member of other Internet fora?  If so, care to mention which one(s)? Yes, for more than 2 decades. There are many, however only one is Catholic (the second being SD).
Why did you choose your username and avatar? I have been using this username since the late 90s when I was just a kid. It is an anagram created by using syllables of my first two names. Many years later I found out it has real meanings in other languages and cultures.
What is your state of life - single, married, religious, or still discerning? Will be married very soon.
Whereabouts do you live "in real life"? (be as specific or as general as you wish!) Brazil.
Personality type? Choleric-melancholic.
Favorite books? Treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, The Real Presence, Sacred Scriptures, Confessions, To Build the City of God.
Favorite movies? After converting, I lost interest. However, for aesthetic and personal reasons, I still could enjoy watching LOTR extended version trilogy... Passion of Christ also has some parts that I find worthy.
Favorite TV shows? Same story: after converting, I lost interest.
Favorite sports/teamsSame story: after converting, I lost interest.
Have any hobbies? Translating books, investigative researchs.
Pet peeves: I only get annoyed when someone criticizes the Church.
Fun random fact about yourself: None.

Maybe you can resurrect that thread. It would be interesting to see what you would like to contribute.

I wonder whether we're talking about the same topic. This is the one that brought me here:

If there's another, more general, please let me know.

I was introduced to personalism in 2018 in a bioethics course but it wasn't as deep as the readings posted in this thread I showed.

Pet peeves: I only get annoyed when someone criticizes the Church.

Then trad fora might be an annoying experience for you as there is regular vehement criticism and even condemnation of the post-Vatican II/Novus Ordo/NewChurch/Franken Church. There is even some criticism of the pre-Vatican II Church (Holy Week reforms, the appointment of modernist prelates, warning signs of homo/pedo priesthood, etc.)

I'd like to know what organization's Mass you attend. SSPX? CMRI? FSSP?
Who is your favorite traditional priest?
Also, please describe in your own words the man commonly known as Pope John-Paul II.

I'd like to get a feel of your beliefs because your introduction doesn't show much in the way of beliefs.

Welcome.

I would also like to see a trad discussion of personalism.

I wouldn't say it is an annoying experience, however some situations are annoying. In the end, I think I profit from participating so I continue.

Regarding criticisms, what I mean by "criticizing the Church" is actually when people go after her dogmas and certain teachings on faith and moral or after her tougher acts in the past against infidels and heretics. I don't mind critics about some of her members who acted against Tradition. In fact, it is my understanding that some of these examples you gave (such as the novelties in Vatican II documents and the Holy Week reform in the 1950s) have motive to be criticized in a constructive and chariteable way.

I'd like to know what organization's Mass you attend. SSPX? CMRI? FSSP? IBP mainly (French institute). Besides, I visit, now and then, priests at rural areas who are 100% Traditional Roman Mass.
Who is your favorite traditional priest? I never ranked them to be honest. I simply try to get the best I can from what they have to offer. Having said this, I am convinced IBP apostolates are on the right track based on their teachings, sermons and official writtings. The one I go to has a strong salesian character (Saint Francis de Sales and Saint John Bosco are men I truly venerate). I also can name a few English speaking priests who influenced me: Fr. Ripperger, the priests whose sermons are posted on Regina Prophetarum, Fr. Hesse in many ways (may he rest in peace).
Also, please describe in your own words the man commonly known as Pope John-Paul II. I know very little of him. Sadly, the most part are words and actions that great Saints and Popes from the past wouldn't approve. But I have no problem when people say he is in Heaven. Someday I might read his canonization process and talk to my spiritual advisors about things I find 'odd'.

How do you reconcile him going against dogma and even the 1st Commandment with him being in Heaven?

I don't know what was in his heart during the his last minutes right before his death and I tend to presume innocence and God's Mercy when I don't know the details. This is why I said I will check his canonization process someday. Maybe there's something that would make me change my mind.

It streches credulity for a man to unrepentantly preach heresy and even apostasy for decades...and get into Heaven.
