This a delicate development; it's also not an occasion for any sort of attack on the FSSP, which I happen to support. But it seems like the news should be posted here.

I am simply going to copy the tweets of Matt Gaspar, editor of Catholic Family News:
Quote
Please pray for the #FSSP and Fr. James Jackson, in particular. Fr. Jackson, longtime pastor of OLMC in Littleton (@ArchDenver) who was transferred to St. Mary's on Broadway (@dioprovidence) this past summer, was arrested yesterday by @RIStatePolice: https://ri.gov/press/view/42365 1/5

Here is a link to a local news report from Rhode Island (@ABC6): https://abc6.com/providence-priest-arrested-charged-with-possession-of-child-pornography/ 2/5

The FSSP North American District has issued a statement: https://fssp.com/fr-jackson-statement 3/5

Fr. Jackson was the rector of Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary (http://fsspolgs.org) when I visited (Fall 2005) while discerning a priestly vocation. He has always struck me as a true spiritual father. I also know that he was loved by his flock at OLMC in @ArchDen. 4/5

As a matter of natural justice, I consider Fr. Jackson innocent until proven guilty. Let us hope and pray that he is indeed innocent, and that the truth of the matter will be made clear very soon. #KyrieEleison Folded hands 5/5

Oh wow.

Obviously innocent until proven guilty.

A single case is too many, but do keep in mind that Catholic priests have a lower rate of offending than teachers or scout leaders.  We only hear about it because the forces of evil will fixate on anything they can find to try and lead souls away from the Church.

Absolutely, and I harp that point non-stop with my secular family and friends. I particularly like pulling out the rabbi statistics  :patriot:

Yes, this would be...2 out 330 priests, if these charges are true. That would be...0.7%? One had hoped for *zero*, but perhaps that was unrealistic.

A few handfuls of other FSSP priests have washed out over the years, but not (so far as I know) for sexual sins.

Only he and God know for sure.

Why any priest would use any technology these days is beyond me; were it not for my job, I'd get rid of all tech in my house. I hate it and cannot wait for the EMP. The ability to be compromised and have evidence falsified is far easier than many think. If "they" want you, "they" will get you and you won't be any the wiser.

I'm still gobsmacked at the priests who have personal email accounts in use for official duties, parishes that let laity handle IT duties, etc. The ability to manufacture a botnet which includes these priests' personal devices (unbeknownst to them) is practically child's play from a hacker perspective. A compromised PDF is all it takes. People are far too trusting, priests especially.

I know Fr. Jackson very well. I've known him for a decade at this point. I recall him saying at one point that all it would take to get him or any priest is an accusation.

But the thing is, Internet/CP task forces aren't Barney Fife. They have very, very competent personnel doing the forensic work to make cases stick. He was arrested because the content was there. Whether or not he actually did it is to be determined. It might never be determined.

If he's innocent, I know that despite whatever may come he will rise to the spiritual occasion and it will save souls, even if we don't see it this side of the General Judgement.

If he's guilty, I'd light the fire myself.

Prayerful

I watched livestreams of Masses from that church and likely Fr Jackson offered them. Pray for the most just outcome. Pray for the priest. Pray for the victims of the cp, not making a judgement which for the court.

The whole thing sounds suspicious. Read the local story. Seems to be straightforward reporting. There are bad actors at play here. Fr. Jackson was pastor in at FSSP Denver when Mrs. H and I married sacramentally in early 2007.

I do appreciate the sympathetic steady and rational posts from the male sector on this forum, so welcome compared to the the hysterical drama on any other internet mediums.

Prayers for all involved and may their sufferings give them a brighter crown in heaven. :pray3:

I'm sympathetic, believe me - from personal experience.

And yet, as I am sure you know, there are hard practical considerations. Dioceses require a certain amount of this of their clergy. You should see what my archdiocese requires.... But maybe that puts an onus on the bishops to change that.

My own sense is to move the financials and online presence over to lay staff as much as possible, perhaps even entirely. The pastor signs off on everything, but isn't at a keyboard when he does it. This can be a little harder with small parishes that cannot *afford* to pay a staff and which may struggle to find volunteers, though.

I'm not without sympathy for this viewpoint.

The oddest thing: I was just listening to The Deserted Vineyard Bernard Janzen and Malachi Martin, just at the point where he is describing
Donna Weurl ruining a priest with unfounded allegations, sending the priest for a brutal psyche eval at a corrupt institution.  Then I switched to this thread.  Which leads me to ask who is the Archbishop above Fr. Jackson in Rhode Island.  Why, it's Tobin of the night night baby puke-athon.  On the surface, sounds very familiar.  (the whole of this interview is prescient).

Heinrich

Man, I am definitely not au courant. What is night night baby puke?

Tobin was outed for his gay texts awhile back.  No link, but  google nighty night baby tobin.  He was in New Jersey at the time.

clau clau

I reckon he was set up.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

edit: When I think of the computers in the SSPX school near me and how badly they were setup.   It would have been trivial for me to plant incriminating material on them.  Put them in a hidden folder buried deep on the hard-disk somewhere. I probably would not even need a password.  How are you supposed to defend yourself against somebody doing that?  Exactly the kind of thing a gay mafia of priests would do to destroy somebody's reputation.

edit2: This reminds of of the CM accusations some time ago against Fr. Ken Novak (who I personally met a lifetime ago).  I reckon that was complete BS also.

Try to put yourself in the position of being accused of something like that when you were innocent. It is absolutely horrendous. Even if you are not guilty your reputation will never recover.  How do you defend yourself?  I do not think we should even be discussing this.  It's trial by media.

Poor Father.  I am an going to pray for him.   :pray1:
