What are some of your favourite/least-favourite board games?
My favourites are:

Stratego, the traditional version, is my favourite board game. It is the only game I own (compact case, so it fits well with my now small library).
Scrabble, Clue, and Risk are my trifecta, although the only one I've played recently is Scrabble.

Risk is a good game, but it is so hard to find people to play the game to the end.
The last time I played, I won it. Since I have no idea when I will play a game to completion again, I think that may be a final victory.
And who I beat is a bit irked. He was too defensive and let me ultimately gain far more territory than he could. I was so spread out in the beginning, I thought I was a goner for sure.
I tried playing Risk once, but I couldn't figure out the instructions.

Catan, Scrabble, Scattergories, and not Monopoly. I hate Monopoly.
Clue, Monopoly, Life, Battleship, Sorry, Taboo, Apples to Apples
I really don't care for chess -- too hard for me to keep track of. I know how to play, but not how to win.

The pie game! I loved playing the old Genus edition back in the mid-2000s - you had to try to guess the answer circa very late Cold War, IIRC.
Settlers.
When I was growing up, we had (still have, probably) a version of Trivial Pursuit from the '80s or maybe early '90s. My friends and I used to play all the time in high school and some of my friends could answer almost every question. I ran with a brainy crowd when I was 16.
My favorite was feudal. Unfortunately it's out of print and I don't know what happened to my parents set.
Battleship, Chess, Draughts.
Favorite: Chess.
Least favorite: Monopoly.
Is it just me, or does Monopoly have an odd tendency to bring out the worst in people? Nearly every time I've played, people either walk away with bad feelings or the board goes airborne an hour to ninety minutes in.

I agree. Everyone is nice in the beginning...
I guess love of Monopoly money is the root of all board-throwing ;)

I guess you haven't played chess with poor losers much.
Odd. My family, and myself, can play it well. Not in a while though.
Monopoly isn't what it used to be. In the new version, once you get enough property, you keep getting bailed out indefinitely until the bank is empty. Too big to fail.

Wasn't aware of that... haven't played for nearly four years.

Sorry, that was satire.
There are always new versions out. I think the most radical version was a round board with an electronic "bank".

Oh, sorry there. I should have picked up on the satire :-[
And I've seen the ads for that - how weird it must be to look on a Monopoly box and read "batteries not included"!

Some things never change then :)
I never had batteries included.
In this order:
Risk- I enjoy the strategy aspect. It's not fun unless I can get other people to play that are as enthusiastic about it as I am. Its a long game, the faint of heart often times forfeit.
Taboo- because it's so high energy, and it requires creativity.
Encore- it's a board game that requires you to know lots and lots of song lyrics if you wish to win.
Monopoly- as a kid I would do my sisters share of the chores if only she'd play it with me!
We have a Simpsons themed Clue. Fun. Smithers did it with the rope in the library.
We used to play Life. Dominos for the older folks.
Does Dominos count as a board game?
Does it even count as a card game?
. . . ?
Cant stand most of them. Chess is OK, I guess. Risk is good. Monopoly is a forgone conclusion most of the time.
Texas Holdem and card games are my thing.
My favourite board game is Monopoly.

As a kid my older brother always beat me at monopoly. When he asked at the beginning of each game if he could be the embezzler, I'd say yes thinking he meant banker. >:(
This makes me want to play board games tonight...

When I lived in another city, my favorite pizza/beer joint had a set of Trivial Pursuit from the 1950's at every table(it was a very hipster establishment). A lot of the questions were really dated, but my friends were always shocked how many of them I knew. ;D
There's a cafe near my parents' place that has the cards from the 80s version. They put some of the cards in one of those sugar packet holders, and you can do the trivia questions as you wait for your food.

I found my Candyland set in the game closet at my parents' house the other day. I am amazed that I didn't find it insanely creepy as a child.
Did someone say.... Candyland?.....
Risk, hands down. Play it online for free: conquerclub.com
Battleship sucks, has always sucked.
Monopoly is pretty good, though I agree it brings out the worst in people.
I also love stratego.
Scrabble is pretty good.
What about sequence? Haven't played in a while but I remember it being a lot of fun.

Board games are my hobby and I'm passionate about them!
My family enjoys Cranium, Pictionary, Scrabble, Ultimate Outburst, Word Thief, and Say When.
This Christmas, Penelope and her fiance got me Awkward Family Photos. It's the best pictures from the website arranged on a board, and then you answer questions about the pictures (what happened right before this photo was taken, what should the title be, what would make this photo more awkward) and the judge gets to decide the best answer (much like Apples to Apples). It was a blast. I highly recommend!

If we're going to include games for kiddies... don't suppose any of you guys ever heard of an oldie from the early '90s titled
It From The Pit?

Great topic, there so many good ones...
My wife and I are big into scrabble, chess, and backgammon as well as various card games.
Good party games:
Wise and Otherwise
Scattergories
Blurt
Apples to Apples
Other favorites growing up:
Axis and Allies
Risk
Monopoly
Stratego
Battleship
Clue
For the Scrabble lovers: http://www.isc.ro/
Yahtzee any-one?
On the subject of board- and parlor-games, when we play with our children: some of my fondest child-hood memories are playing cards with my father; Go Fish, Crazy 8's, then Rummy. Rather than he condescending to child's play, I remember those occasions as elevating me to ' grown-up pursuits', as those games seemed to me at the time.

Sorry for the commie commentary at video end.....I just liked the pastors speech...although I certainly eschew naked capitalism.
We like apples to apples and scrabble games
