On this day in A.D. 1177 the Miraculous victory at Montgisard took place. King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem and his Crusader armies routed a much larger Islamic force led by Saladin, who lost over 90 percent of his army in one of the worst losses he ever suffered. King Baldwin had a Benedictine monastery built dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria in gratitude as it was on her Feast Day the battle was won.
