Anyone know how to orbit/pan in Blender?

I just downloaded Blender (newest version, 2.82a), but I can't figure out how to orbit or pan. The documentation says to use the middle mouse button to orbit and shift + middle mouse button to pan, but when I do that then nothing happens. (I don't think there's anything wrong with my physical mouse...)

Anyone have any idea?


Also, what is the circular cursor thing for? (I'm new to Blender)

Never mind... just tried a different mouse and now it works.
