YeOldeFustilarians

Go thy ways, old Jack;
die when thou wilt, if manhood, good manhood, be
not forgot upon the face of the earth, then am I a
shotten herring. There live not three good men
unhanged in England; and one of them is fat and
grows old: God help the while! a bad world, I say.
I would I were a weaver; I could sing psalms or any
thing. A plague of all cowards, I say still.

Clau Clau and I saw Hidden Figures in New York last week.

I found it interesting.  He found it a little too political for his tastes.

I'm surprised that black women working for NASA in 1961 would have been treated like that.  It makes me wonder why they would have had black human computers in a job, that a lot of white math graduates would presumably have sought after, and then treat them like dumb negros or second class citizens.

Was that real in 1961 at NASA or just exaggerated for the story?
Contentment is knowing that you're right. Happiness is knowing that someone else is wrong.

Apparently, onl y one of them is black and even she is probably only 1/8 black.

Katherine Johnson, a blue-eyed, light-skinned black female.

The story is definitely exaggerated.
The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
    It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
    It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
    And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
    And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
    There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
    Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
    World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

That movie is so much weirder as an adult.

Some of the story is complete crap.

I doubt the treatment they experienced was anything like depicted in the movie.  But, affirmative action and racial quotas was beginning to become a thing, plus, women and blacks were cheaper to hire.

Rogue One.  Classic Star Wars style.
Not for children, due to some very intense scenes and violence.

Finally saw Silence.

It was beautiful, gruesome, depressing, hopeful, infuriating, and all-around difficult.

For the well-formed conscience, it presents many worthy ideas for consideration, meditation, and discussion; but, probably, still doesn't satisfactorily resolve them.  We discussed it in-depth on my podcast, if anyone is interested: http://catholicmovieguy.com/2017/01/27/126/.

Dude, didn't know you had a podcast. Good to see you around.

Is Brady gonna get his fifth?

Thanks - just something I started last year because I couldn't find a podcast that discussed movies from a Catholic perspective; so I said, what the heck, I guess I'll try it.

But yeah, I think Brady will get it.  I actually (*ducks*) like the Patriots.  Who are you rooting for?

I just finished listening to your Rogue One/Star Wars podcast.  I really like your style, and enjoyed the overall discussion very much.  I'll be sharing your link for sure.
