maybe she needs to listen to more morrissey and the cure

Well, her music is just awful.  I hate the Cure, but she would actually improve if she took on the Cure as an influence.  I hesitate to frown on a young woman exercising her creativity and self-expression, but ... she would probably be a better model or actress than she is a singer/songwriter.  That might sound shallow, but it's not.  I don't look down on modelling or acting.  Photography and film are excellent art forms.  And her music (such as it is) has little artistic quality.

How can anyone hate the Cure?!

Is it pornographic? Is it inducing you to sin?

What are you going to do? Start another public campaign to get me removed as a moderator? If you don't like what is posted on this thread, then leave. If that sullies the forum for you, you ought to not visit this website. No one is putting a gun to your head to visit this site, nor become fixated with what I post.

No, it is not pornographic. It doesn't have to be to that depth to be impure. It is not inducing me to sin due to the fact that through the Grace of God I have control of these base desires. Some here may not. It could be an inducement to sin. Give that some thought. This isn't about "you." It is about goodness and decency.

Are you back on the mod squad?

Please provide evidence of a public campaign to have you demoderated.

How is it impure? Entertainment does not have to be edifying to be safely listened to.

What's edifying about putting chalk on your hands, and lifting a big metal bar. Loud music playing throughout, with all these guys encouraging one another. Some "pure" Catholic might not find that edifying or worthy of time.

If you personally don't like something, that's fine and on you. But don't conflate your opinions and worries because of taste or personal experience and try to make an application to all Catholics. That's what Protestants do.

Very easily.  The Cure sucks.  I have given my reasons for this here and here.

Interestingly, I was agreeing with Heinrich on the first of those threads, where he was arguing once again that rock music was unfit for Catholic ears.  Inwardly, I have a feeling he's correct.  One cannot serve two masters.  Virtually every saintly piece of writing about the spiritual life gives us a sense that we will make the surest progress if we disencumber ourselves of our worldliness.  Intuitively, I know that to be true.  The mystical journey has frequently been described as an ascent.  And you don't ascend if you're weighed down by worldly attitudes and base passions.  You have to rid yourself of that crap.  Kind of like that great Rolling Stones lyric, "got to scrape that sh!t right off your shoes."  And with that, I'm back to rock n' roll.  I've tried giving it up but I just can't.  "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak."

Pretty girls have a diversity of tastes.  But I have to concede, you have a point.  More of them probably like the Cure than don't.  The Cure alternate between "cutesy giggly" songs and "emotional tearfest" songs, both which have a girly appeal.

However, I'm not so sure about playing cover songs on your guitar for people.  That has a cringing quality.  It's always awkward when someone gets out their guitar and starts playing (and singing) a cover which, invariably, pales in comparison to the original.  Especially when they're earnest about it.  Maybe a mother or a loyal girlfriend will have some kind words for that sort of thing, but mostly it's just bad.  It's like, "uggh.  Deliver us from amateur hour."
