Great App, f.lux
« on: December 29, 2013, 09:35:36 PM »
I just found out about this app, and I recommend it to everyone here:

http://justgetflux.com/

"Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

f.lux
f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better."

Been using it for years. It's life changing. I go blind if I use my mom's laptop at night since she doesn't have it.
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips. Incline not my heart to evil words.

Thanks.  I've been wanting something like this.
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.

Neat!
In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael’s Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

“My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you’re supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen.”

Tried this last night - seems like a neat idea.
Son, when thou comest to the service of God, stand in justice and in fear, and prepare thy soul for temptation.

I used it.

The only downside is I am now on Linux, and haven't googled for an alternative.

Doesn't it work on your linux box? I just tried it out on mine and it works fine. It's a bit trippy, though.

Does it just dim the monitor at night?

No, it changes the colour tone so that the light is a different hue and not as harsh on your eyes, no matter what brightness you have it at. I usually have the brightness turned all the way down, but with f.lux I can have it quite high without any irritation.

I just installed it, and the difference is incredible. I didn't realize just how harsh it was until now.
Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Take any post I write with a grain of salt. I've been wrong before, and can be again

I love how it made me notice that daylight is really blue, and my lights at home are much warmer!
