General Information / Re: Why Do People Do This?

There was a man that had a talk show on the radio and latter on T.V. The tittle of one of his shows, and what latter would become his moto was: "People are Funny".
But seriously, the crisis in the Church affects all of us in different ways; with the "North Star" of the Pope and Magisterium having been eclipsed for some time, all of us have been forced to certain degree to become "our own Popes"; which is very conducive to a loss of perspective not only our spiritual life but also our natural every day coping mechanisms.

This book by Fr. Paul O'Sullivan O.P. "An Easy Way to become a Saint"; it's not very long, only about 100 pages or so. I don't think there is anyone who can not profit from reading this book and taking the spiritual advice Fr. Gives.

Here is what one of the reviewers on amazon said about this book:

QuoteThis book is a must read for anybody and everyone especially for Catholics. I ordered this book after going through the ebook as I was really inspired by it. We do not realize that the countless good regular actions of a day at work or for family can so easily bring us immense rewards are utterly lost until we gain knowledge by reading this book. Don't look at the price of this book when it can get you infallible means of reaching a high degree of Sancticity and by even cutting short our days in purgatory. Just buy it , read it , gain knowledge and apply it in your daily routine. You'll see your life taking a beautiful turn ..leading to true joy , consolation and strength .
If you don't read this book ( be it any source whether ebook or even from TAN books ) or loose opportunity to apply what is written by Paul Sullivan , trust me you're loosing big deal !!!

Quote from: Bonaventure on May 11, 2024, 09:26:27 PMParticipation at objectively schismatic, possibly heretical liturgies is not only allowed, but fulfills the Sunday obligation
On the other hand, all of the local bishops where I live have explicitly stated, on more than one occasion, that attending a Mass at a FSSPX chapel is not permitted. Their hypocrisy is becoming obvious to everyone.

Be grateful for any traditional priests you have nearby, attend the Mass they offer and support them in whatever way you can. And stay away from the N.O.

Evil spirits want nothing more than good, traditionalist Catholics to damn their souls by giving in to hatred and despair. Don't let them win. Pray for the pope and for the bishops. The more they err, the more we should pray.

Quote from: Michael Wilson on May 12, 2024, 09:57:25 AMI have thought the same for a long  time; I couldn't put my finger on why the repeated questions on the same subject; why this obsession? He was anxious for me to engage him, and when I would stop, he would come back with some easy questions to get the dialogue going again in order to return to the real topic he was interested in promoting, just as it happened on this thread.

I think that these types are also hoping that someone can answer them to their satisfaction so that they can "figure it out."

It's not 100% malicious, not always.

I think that people who read about what is going on in the Church can easily develop an obsession over it. Speaking from personal experience.

Family, friends, and loved ones in "real life" get tired of hearing about it and it gets old pretty quick. I've seen that a lot.

Wife and I rarely engage in "crisis talk." Usually I'll see something Jorge does or says and go on a rant, and she'll chime in "we already know he isn't the pope, who cares! Tend to your son and pray more!"

I think, then, that for these people, who begin obsessing over the "true solution," true Church, should I become ortho/prot, etc., forums like this become their bouncy house.

They can screw around and post weird shit and even be mean and assholish (look at what Boniface VIII said to Chesterton over vaccines) and there are generally 0 Consequences in their "real lives"

General Information / Why Do People Do This?
Last post by Bonaventure - May 12, 2024, 09:44:51 AM
I've noticed several instances of:

- Crypto-Protestants/Orthos posting to undermine Catholicism in a subtle way

- People dealing with issues seemingly in their own personal life (or as many in the NO say, their "faith journey") who seem to use the forum as their padded cell (GoG/Boniface VIII/AlfredtheGreat and Justin Martyr/Jean Carrier/Kharim)

-People asking for a ban or otherwise being banned, sometimes years ago, and then creating another account to resume posting (GoG/BVIII/AtG, Poche/benedicite, and Petrie/2Vermont/Baylee come to mind)

Why do these people do this?

Boredom?

Undiagnosed mental illness?

AlfredtheGreat has been permanently banned. He is the same person as user GiftofGod/Boniface VIII, and has been banned for violating the forum rules against having more than one user account (in order to circumvent a ban).

Idk, but it appears that he was a pompous ass.

I am sad that I missed posting and modding from 2020-2022. I could have helped reigned in a lot of trash and filth that found its way here (just look at AlNg).

I don't regret not being around for GoG.

@Michael Wilson

He ended up being Boniface VIII and then AlfredtheGreat
