To those of you who love cleaning

I bought a cleaner from a door to door salesman. It was called Advanage, and it did an amazing job on almost anything. It was especially good for making glass cleaner (using a 32-1 mix with water). No streaks, and it smelled much better than glass cleaners from a store.

I love the method in the book, The House that Cleans Itself.

Do you know if there's a website that has all the tips on it?  Or is it worthwhile to invest in the book?

But I do recommend the book. I think it's geared to a specific type of personality, though, but it matches my shortcomings perfectly.

Multis gratias.  Now I just have to discern if it's God's will that I order the book and go pick it up, and read it, or search the blog.  Both could be time sinkholes.

Only thing I can say is to stay away from the FlyLady. Tried that and it irritated me greatly.

That makes at least 2 of us!  Although, my sink is always clean, so maybe I shouldn't be too harsh.

OK, I'll invest in the book.  So far I like her writing.

It arrived today.  I'm excited and hopeful, yet cautious.  Many past failures ...  :)

Thanks again!

I love cleaning - I'm a neat freak.  I'm especially good for spontaneous dusting!

One tip I'm proud of: cleaning window screens with gun oil in an aerosol can.  You spray the oil on the screen, and take a cloth rag and the dust comes right off because it clings to the oil.  3-way oil or WD40 works too.

Sudsy ammonia in hot water is the best window/glass cleaner I've found yet.  I use it on the farm to clean some really filthy windows.  You can clean your entire bathroom with sudsy ammonia and hot water - just watch the surfaces you use it on.

I also clean my entire bathroom by filling my sink with hot water and putting comet in the water.  I then use a sponge to clean the counter, occasionally the shower, and then wipe the toilet down (always do the toilet last! yuk!).  To rinse, just drain the comet water, and wipe everything down with fresh water in the sponge and let it air dry.  I mop the floor with hot water and vinegar, which works wonders.

My family got one of those steam-mops last year, and it is amazing! We have hardwood floors throughout the whole downstairs, and it gets them absolutely spotless- not easy, because we have three dogs and a huge yard.

Is it heavy?  It sounds heavy.

Three dogs?  I'm so jealous!

What's 'sudsy ammonia'?

I don't quite know how its different from regular ammonia myself.  While normal ammonia is clear, sudsy ammonia is yellow.  Maybe soap is added to it?  They do clean differently though.  Sudsy ammonia acts more like pine-sol than normal ammonia.

It sounds like I have the right stuff for this job.  I just checked and I have some yellow liquid in a bottle and the label says ammonia.

I wasn't aware this author wrote non-fiction -- but I loved Echoes of the Titanic and Shadows of Lancaster County.  Maybe I should give her housekeeping book a try.  :)

It's been so long since I've read fiction.  I'd be interested in knowing your thoughts on these books, OCLF.
