My sister's church has a deacon. I've never had any experience with a deacon, and don't know what to call him if I talk to him. Help me out?
My Lord and my God.
Ven. Matt Talbot, pray for Tom.

I'm pretty sure you address him as Mr. Reverend
Even after a long life of sin, if the Christian receives the Sacrament of the dying with the appropriate dispositions, he will go straight to heaven without having to go to purgatory. - Fr. M. Philipon; This sacrament prepares man for glory immediately, since it is given to those who are departing from this life. - St. Thomas Aquinas; It washes away the sins that remain to be atoned, and the vestiges of sin; it comforts and strengthens the soul of the sick person, arousing in him a great trust and confidence in the divine mercy. Thus strengthened, he bears the hardships and struggles of his illness more easily and resists the temptation of the devil and the heel of the deceiver more readily; and if it be advantageous to the welfare of his soul, he sometimes regains his bodily health. - Council of Trent

Sub-deacons and Deacons are Reverend Mr. So and so.

In informal settings, you can address him as Deacon "first name or surname".

For example Deacon Rick.
"From the moment we awake in the morning, let us pray continually in the words of holy David: Turn away my eyes, that they may not behold vanity"
St Alphonsus

"I will set my face against you, and you shall fall down before your enemies, and shall be made subject to them that hate you, you shall flee when no man pursueth you"
Leviticus 26:17

"Behold, O God our protector : and look upon the face of Thy Christ" (Ps. 79:20) Here is devotion to the face of Jesus Christ as prophesized by David."

Seriously?
Yes, we just had a deacon give his first sermon today at Mass, one of the men who himself went to seminary said that is how you would address him.

Formally: Reverend Mr. [Last Name]
In conversation: Deacon [Last Name]

In the Orthodox Church, Fr. Deacon. In Eastern Rite Catholic jurisdictions I've heard/read, everything from Father Deacon to the RC novus ordo/protestant, "Rev. Mister".
Before Abraham was, I AM. John 8:58

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.

Come to think of it, permanent Deacons (even "ArchDeacons") were common enough up to the high middle ages.  Isn't there a precedent for addressing them dating from these times?
"O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance, granting to Thy people victory over all their enemies, and by the power of Thy Cross preserving Thy commonwealth."

"Through the prayers of the Theotokos O Savior save us"

"I like grumpy old cusses.  Hope to live long enough to be one" - John Wayne

Off topic but I asked a Dominican priest what the proper way to address him was.

He said if I'm talking to him I can call him father. If I'm talking about him, call him friar.
