Gah, there are so many hymns out there, I can't pick one. lol

Perhaps this has remained my all-time favourite as it's a hymn that contains so much pious aspirations especially for kids, yet it's a hymn I cannot play as part of 'modernistic' catechesis, or else I will get the boot ... but I will play it to the kids again if I ever get the chance to return as a catechist. Won't care if I get fired for the second or third time:

Ah ... this hymn was the very first traditional Catholic hymn that I stumbled upon after having gotten sick of the protestant-ish "Praise-&-Worship" songs in RCIY ... remembered crying like crazy & playing that over & over ... it's too sacred. Also, my Novus Ordo parish played it during Lent one day - except it was done with piano & they replaced the "never will I sin again" to "help me not to sin again" (& omitted the "by my sins I deserved death ...hell with all its pains & torments" part entirely.)

It's sublime.

While I was in seminary we were put into "liturgical groups", each group each month was to choose the hymns for Mass. Hymns in latin were a no-go and frowned upon :/

So I poured over all these english hymns and hymn books and God of Mercy and Let all Mortal Flesh keep Silence really stuck with me

I did manage to "cram in" Parce Domine, during Lent though. Small victories

Wow. Just wow. This was exactly the same hymn that the local schola sung during Latin Mass!! (I forgot on what day, but it was definitely featured.)

I rather like the hymn 'Salve Regina.' In particular when sung to the solemn chant tune here:

While not a hymn per se, there's not one time I've listened to Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei without feeling I'm in the presence of Christ, and moved to tears.

Update: there's a Marian hymn that I totally forgot in my music collection; only to replay it just a while ago.

Years back when my RCIY formation was very liberal-ish, the catechism classes I attended in a Catholic high school were semi-traditional thanks to the school chaplain who was semi-conservative. Remembered that he blasted this particular hymn in the school auditorium. The lyrics made little to no sense to my cradle-Catholic schoolmates, but it made alot of sense of me (as a catechumen back then), & I'm still hooked to it up to this very day.
