Vetus Ordo:
Pope Expresses Shock for Canadian Residential School Discovery and Prays for Healing

Pope Francis expresses sorrow for the news from Canada about the discovery of a mass grave at a former Residential School for indigenous children and urges political and religious authorities to collaborate in shedding light on the matter and commit to a path of reconciliation and healing.

By Linda Bordoni. In Vatican News.

Pope Francis on Sunday expressed his pain for “the shocking discovery in Canada of the remains of 215 children, pupils of the Kamloops Indian Residential School, in the province of British Columbia.” Speaking after the recitation of the Angelus prayer, the Pope said he “joins the Canadian Bishops and the whole Catholic Church in Canada in expressing his closeness to the Canadian people, who have been traumatised by the shocking news.” The Pope went on to say: “the sad discovery further increases understanding of the pain and suffering of the past” and he issued an appeal to political and religious authorities of Canada “to continue to work together with determination to shed light on this sad event and to commit themselves humbly to a path of reconciliation and healing.”

“These difficult times,” he added, “are a strong call for all of us to turn away from the colonial model and from, ideological colonisations, and to walk side by side in dialogue, mutual respect and recognition of the rights and cultural values of all the daughters and sons of Canada.” Pope Francis ended with an appeal for prayers saying “We commend to the Lord the souls of all the children who died in Canada’s Residential Schools and we pray for the grieving families and communities of indigenous Canadians.”

The Residential School system

The Residential School system forcibly separated about 150,000 children from their homes. Run by the government and various Christian Churches, their stated aim was to assimilate indigenous children. The discovery last month of unmarked graves of up to 215 Indigenous children at the Kamloops Indian Residential Schools was made using ground-penetrating radar. Authorities have been urged to conduct full-fledged investigations into the circumstances and responsibilities surrounding these deaths, including forensic examinations of the remains found, and to proceed to the identification and registration of the missing children.

The Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia was operated by the Catholic church on behalf of Ottawa from 1890 to 1969, before being permanently closed in 1978.

I don't think it was a colonial model.  More along the rights of conquest.

We don't know the reason for 215 dead kids.  Could be there was some psychopath pedophile at the school.  Could have been a disease outbreak.  Until we have the facts, Bergoglio is early with his comments and over dramatic.  The schools opened in 1890.  Could be a bunch of kids died from diphtheria in 1910 and were buried in a mass grave.

Or the Spanish flu.  There are mass graves all over the country from the Spanish flu, not just at residential schools.  Turns out it wasn't a mass grave anyway; apparently the penetrating radar found 215 unmarked graves.  So at this point we don't even know whether they have been there before the residential school or not.  Yet the natives and the moron Trudeau have been calling it genocide from the start.  And the natives have their hand out looking for reparation even before they know how they died.  The Canadian news and Trudeau are coming down on the Pope, the Canadian Bishops and the Catholic Church for not apologizing for it.  Apologizing for what though?

When you drill down and do some research into the entire residential school issue the numbers just don't jive.  Figure these numbers out and see what you come to.

The residential schools operating for about 120 years; not all of them for that long.

There were 139 residential schools in Canada.

About 4200 children died in residential schools.

About 150,000 native children attended residential schools.

150,00 divided by 139 = 1,079 divided by 120 = 8.99

So we are suppose to believe that on average there were 8.99, lets say 9 native children at each residential school per year.

Even if you cut the number of years in half that still just comes to 18 native children per school per year.

These are the numbers they are using to come to the conclusion that 1 in 50 native children died in the residential schools.  This is complete nonsense.  There had to have been more than 150,000 native children that attended 139 residential schools over 120 years.  It seems to me someone decreased that 150,000 number to come to the 1 in 50 number.

Besides while 4200 native children died in 139 residential schools over 120 years, which happens to work out to 0.25 native children per school per year, how many other Canadian children do you think died during that same 120 years.

I think the whole thing, right from the start is just a bunch of malarkey.  I hope the Pope, the Canadian Bishops and the Catholic Church never ever apologize for it.  Again there is nothing to apologize for.  You apologize, they recognize it as guilt and have their hand out continually.

Optatus:
The only thing I have to add is that it's appalling to me that the federal government and media are attempting to lay the blame squarely on the Church. The system was produced by the government as a preferable alternative to the Jesuit model practiced since the days of New France. The latter was almost certainly deliberately eradicated by the government through under funding, both to curtail the Roman influence among natives and because it was ineffective at assimilating them. It's a case of Nero starting the fire and blaming the Christians.

Here's an idea: let's begin the process of paying reparations by having all of the wealthy, over-educated cosmopolitan blowhards in major metropolitan areas like Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver foot the bill. After all, being the centres of wealth, political influence and high culture that they are, no one has benefited more from colonialism than them. I'd also like to see PM Dress Up get on national TV and publicly apologise for the role that the federal government had in instituting the system and, more specifically, for the role his father played in the White Paper debacle.

Yeah, let’s anguish ourselves over the crimes of past, and ignore the thousands of babies getting killed in the very country of residence of the Apostolic See in our own times

This is absurd - when did the pope turn into the nauseating Karen-consceince of the world?
