Are you aware of any good Catholic smartphone apps?
I know for iPhone/iPad there is the Breviarium Meum application written by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate (FFI) and uses laszlo's Divinum Officium website.
Divinum Officium (http://divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/officium.pl)
Breviarium Meum (http://apps.liturgiaetmusica.com/index.php/en/apps/brevmeum)
I also semi-regularly use the Android application "Laudate."
Laudate (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aycka.apps.MassReadings&hl=en)
There was also this, Consecration to Mary. It was pretty straightforward and not really ported too well to Android. But, it gets the job done and provides the daily prayers for consecration to Mary.
Consecration to Mary (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netbrainer.consecration_for_catholics_01&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5uZXRicmFpbmVyLmNvbnNlY3JhdGlvbl9mb3JfY2F0aG9saWNzXzAxIl0.)
When I first got my iPhone, I downloaded iPieta:http://www.ipieta.com/ (http://www.ipieta.com/)
Can't say if it's good or bad, really, I'm not much of an app person. It's got the daily readings from the Douay-Rheims, the trad calender, and lots of traditional catholic ebooks, so it can't be all bad. :)
I have iPieta as well. It's pretty much a one stop shop.

Great, thanks for this! My Consecration starts up in a couple weeks, and I didn't even think to look for an app (and I'm always losing the books). I noticed the prayers are worded a little differently than in the books, but I've got most of them memorized by now anyway.
I love iPieta. It has everything a Catholic could need, even the Summa and the Haydock commentary.
I have CathSermons and CathHistory I purchased both full versions, I listen in the mornings and with my children. I enjoy RC Buddy, the Year of Faith app, Magnificat, AMR Radio,Martyrologium Romanum, Saint of the Day, and a Rosary App.
And all those mentioned.
I've got a Fulton Sheen App and it contains a lot of his sermons. The free version only has about 30 or so, but the full version has hundreds.
Edited to add: Forgot to mention my Confession app. I don't use it often, but it can come in handy (especially if you have trouble remembering the date of your last Confession).
A Fulton Sheen app?
I'm getting it!
iPieta and Laudate are the ones I have.
I have:
RC Calendar (NO)
Laudate
Catholic TV&Radio
iCatholicFM
RadioVaticana
saltandlight
ThePopeApp
all free
Would love to have iPieta, but I am restricted to the free stuff.
I just got discerning hearts...its liberal but has good mp3 rosarys and prayers available. Laudate is ok im looking into pieta.

Wow, I had no idea! I love listening to Fulton Sheen! Can you download the talks, as well as stream them? I'd love to put them on my ipod. :)
The iMass app is very good. For 99 cents, you get a full missal and breviary, audio of sermons said by FSSP priests, and a live stream of daily low and Sunday high masses said by the same FSSP priests all on your iPhone.

I'm not sure if you can do this or not. I have the app for Android so I'm not sure if they even have this for the iPhone, but if you can figure out how to download or stream these, let me know! That would come in quite handy.

iPieta is definitely worth it, with a few exceptions it's almost completely Traditional. I don't think you'll be disappointed Voxx.

I could do Windows/Windows 8 but I can't currently do Windows Phone.
The way I'd be making these apps would be, instead of me writing them in a native language, I'd be writing them in a program called GameMaker. GameMaker is intended to be used for making computer games but it can be used to make other stuff besides games. So I can make regular apps without much problem (except there are a few limitations, e.g. I don't think GameMaker can be used to write a program that uses the phone's camera or microphone). Anyway, I've been using GameMaker for several years so I'm pretty familiar with it. And one of the features is that once I make the app in GameMaker then I can export it to Windows and Mac and iOS and Android and Windows Phone and whatever other platforms GameMaker lets me export it to without really changing the code much. However, I have never actually exported a GameMaker project to any of the mobile devices before, so I'll have to experiment a with exporting it and see if I can get it working on the various platforms. (Which is why I said I can "try" to make it, but I really can't guarantee I'll be able to.)
The reason I cannot currently export to Windows Phone is because each of the platform-export things costs extra and I haven't yet paid for the Windows Phone export (the regular Windows and Windows 8 exports come with it and I've already paid for the Android and iOS exports). Maybe I will eventually purchase the Windows Phone export but maybe I won't (I'm really not a fan of Microsoft). Either way, I don't currently have it so I can't make stuff for Windows Phone at the moment.

While at Mass I noticed an older lady with a smartphone atop her missal. It had the notes of whichever hymn choir was singing at that point in the mass. The interface looks vaguely like iMass, except it had the text and notes of hymns.
iBreviary and the1962 missal (by Lux Aeterna) are two I was able to get for android free on Google play.

You have to purchase it from Apple's App Store. When I purchased it a few years ago, it was around 4 bucks.
Thank you, MundaCorMeum. I was thinking it would be $20 per month or so--have never purchased an app before.

Nope; once you buy an app, it's yours until or unless it won't function on an upgraded OS. I have apps from 5 years ago that still work, so shouldn't be a problem. What would be a problem is if you went back in OS and an app was written for at least a later version.
Also, you always own the app, even if you delete it from your phone -- it stays in your app store account.
Some apps do have in-app purchases available, but generally they are free apps and the money is made on the in-app purchase. iPieta is not one of those.

Right. Once you purchase it, you have access to everything in the app. It has a ton of stuff in there, too. I just looked it up in the App Store, and they have Spanish and French versions for $0.99. It doesn't show the price of the English version, since I own it, but maybe the cost has gone down?
Looks like it's only $.99 now. I can't remember how much it was when I bought it, back in iOS 5.somehting. Maybe $1.99? The current version requires iOS 7.
It's $0.99 on Android - needless to say I just bought it 8)
Needless to say, I overpaid :-\
Two things. I'm finding iPieta absolutely worthless. Every time I click on something, it takes me back to the 'install' page! And does anyone know of an Android app for the Trad Calendar? I seem to have somehow gotten the NO Calendar from Universalis into my calendar.

iMass now seems stable enough on my Xiaomi Note 3. The streaming links can be a bit unstable really. There might be fancier apps, but it works fine. Now using a phone as a missal will look more like a bored man messing with his phone, but this app seems a good reference, seems, I don't know for a fact.

Mass for the day which my St Andrew's missal doesn't as it's for 1950 or so, and the 1961 Roman Missal seems to see how much it can scatter everything throughout the missal. Still it might look odd looking at a phone at Mass. Am I bored? It will look so.
I recently used the divinum officium app at Mass for Palm Sunday. I left my missal at home, and I didnt keep my nose buried in the phone.

iMass derped before last Sunday's Mass. I thought it was a data snafu, but the video feed of Masses worked, but the Missal and anything textual stopped working for a bit.

Laudate doesn't appear to have the Mass of Ages, reading a little of the 'Order of Mass' helps recall for me how banal and irritating the NOM so often was. My hand missal from 1851 is as useable as one from 1940 or 1962 (except St Joseph added to the
Communicantes which isn't audible unless one is near the inner altar rails), no changes worth worrying about until the Robber Council started to hack at and option away the Mass before the NOM horror. iMass seems issue free, the worst usually is that there was the occasional typo in the translation.

Very neatly done.
I hope that the St Lawrence Press
Ordo Recitandi (http://www.ordorecitandi.org.uk/page2.htm), based on the typical edition of the Roman Missal could be done in that format, Yet a booklet, which it is, does have the advantage of never emitting bleeps at unwanted times. :P

iMass streaming doesn't working on the Android app for me for quite a while. I liked when TLM wasn't possible in a given location with a good data signal.
I use Universalis each day for the Liturgy of Hours, plus the Gospel reading. It's a paid for app, but of excellent quality/design.

Oddly, I have two versions, a plainly designed FSSP branded one where streaming or recorded Masses work with a decent data signal, and more decorated one where the recording / stream of Mass rarely, if ever works. The former is likely a newer version.
An app I recommend is Catena; it's a free Bible app that - when you click on a verse of the Bible - will give you various Patristic Commentaries on that app.
It's not strictly Catholic, and has Church Fathers which aren't Catholic, but you can change that in the settings so it only shows Pre-Schism East and West and Post-Schism West only.
I highly recommend Laudete. It has everything, prayers, daily mass propers, Latin...even the bible!

It has Latin prayers and the Challoner Douay-Rheim, but I cannot find propers for the traditional Mass in it. iMass (https://www.divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/Pofficium.pl) remains the best for tradition.
Latin Mass Magazine have the new 'Keep the Faith' app (search for 'keep the faith Catholic' on Play store). Fine articles, if it's like the magazine.
Highly recommend Vetus Ordo app.
