what is the name of the thing that you can use to control content coming into every device in your home?  Its not a program like Covenant Eyes, its something else...

Perhaps setting up some kind of router filter? The router is the device that controls your home wifi.

In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael's Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

"My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you're supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen"

Most ISP-provided home router filters are URL(website) specific rather than true content filtering.

Translation: you can only block specific sites.

Any content filter will have a database of sites that are pre-classified, usually, and you choose what content to block based on pre-defined criteria.

The usual method is probably going to be software as a service (SaaS). Some dedicated after market home routers include more features, though you're likely looking at the SaaS method as a subscription add-on.

There is the option of OpenDNS.

This article delves into various options as of its writing:

OpenDNS has a few free options. Their VIP is $20/yr.

Keep in mind that if a site is not classified and the app allows it through, things embedded on the site could display depending on coding. As such, this style of app should be used in conjunction with an image blocker.
