This is an enormous blessing! The North-East portion of Michigan is a liturgical wasteland. We have a place deep in the piney woods in NE Michigan and the possibility of getting the SSPX in our neck of the woods would make my decade.

It is seriously heroic what William Price and the SSPX are doing with historic St. Charles Borromeo Church in Cheboygan.

The church was a horrifying wreck because the diocese (Gaylord which much could be said about) sold it to some protestants in the 1980s who completely trashed it. Then William Price bought it and has been restoring it.

Now he had the Society come in and offer HIGH MASS!

I'm wondering if there is any way to find out if the Society is planning to take it over on a permanent basis?

The story is here:

The go fund me is here:

Anyone here know anything about how this sort of thing works with the Society?

Is this the husband of Carleen who used to post here?

The Society generally come where they are invited as far as I know, to various missions.  What a true blessing.

Yep, I believe that you are right, Elizabeth! What a Blessing!
His name is Bill Price. That is Carleen's husband! Praise be to God!

God Bless him & his family!

Any bets on how long before the SSPX threatens to leave if they aren't deeded the property?

If attending Mass, the ordinary form as celebrated everyday around the world be sinful, then the Church no longer exists. Period.
Rather, if the NOM were the lex credendi of the Church, then the Church would no longer exist. However, the true mass and the true sacraments still exist and will hold the candle of faith until Our Lord steps in to restore His Bride to her glory.
We could compare ourselves to the Catholics in England at the time of the Reformation. Was it sinful for them to attend Cranmer's service?
We have to remind ourselves that all the machinery of the "Church" continued in place. They had priests, bishops, churches, cathedrals. But all of them were using the new "Book of Common Prayer" instead of the Catholic Mass. Ordinary lay people could see with their own eyes an enormous entity that called itself the "Church," but did the true Church still exist in that situation? Meanwhile, in small hiding places in certain homes were a handful of true priests offering the true Mass at the risk of imprisonment, torture and death.

These are Byzantine Rite monks in the U.P., but I personally am not aware of many Trads in that area.  This might strike your fancy though: https://www.dioceseofmarquette.org/venbishopbaragahistory

I'm still primarily a down-stater so I'm not in the loop, but it seems to be that the Marquette diocese is actually LESS hostile than the Gaylord diocese.

The Gaylord diocese covers the entire top portion of the mitten, and there is a SSPX chapel on the west side.

SO there are other TLMs on the north-west side of the mitten.

The SSPX being in the area is good for EVERYONE. Would be nice if some folks (not here) would come to understand that.

But every time we get a TLM going on the east side it doesn't last. I know for a fact that one thriving one was killed by a previous bishop (Cooney) and the latest one was moved further towards the West-Center of the diocese.

Marquette on the other hand seems to have decent coverage, but I'm not up there so I have no direct experience.

There are these two listings:

Actually, the last bishop of Gaylord was Bishop Hebda (now in Minnesota) who was not hostile to the TLM, however, he wasn't in the diocese for long.  Cooney was absolutely awful, so killing a TLM by him is not surprising in the least.  He tried to stop people from kneeling for Communion or even kneeling after Communion.
The royal feast was done; the King
Sought some new sport to banish care,
And to his jester cried: "Sir Fool,
Kneel now, and make for us a prayer!"

The jester doffed his cap and bells,
And stood the mocking court before;
They could not see the bitter smile
Behind the painted grin he wore.

He bowed his head, and bent his knee
Upon the Monarch's silken stool;
His pleading voice arose: "O Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!"

Yep, Hebda was neutral while in Gaylord on the TLM. There were other issues with him:

https://gaylordfaithfulnews.org/

And yes, Cooney was a misery, trying to force standing, etc.

Hebda is now floating trial balloons about squishing the TLM in his new diocese (St. Paul Minn).

Mrs. Price posted an update in the comments section over at Life Site News!

Mrs. Price posted:

"We are working on that. To begin, we will be having 1-2 Masses a month. Depending on community, surrounding area support....the SSPX will deem it self sustaining and add St. Charles to its schedule. For now Masses are being offered by priests traveling in the area, and by arraignment, which allows more opportunity to advertise ahead of time. Please pray St. Charles will be added as a regular on the SSPX schedule for Michigan. Thank you for your interest!"

Help please!

I know some here have a great deal of knowledge on this topic and if I could impose for a bit of review/correction, I'd be grateful!

The diocese of Gaylord is trying to strangle the infant in the cradle as far as the SSPX in Cheboygan effort.

(Here if interested: https://www.dioceseofgaylord.org/news/information-st-charles-church-cheboygan )

I'm hoping to provide a package of material to a group in Gaylord to bring them up to speed on the reality of the situation (in contrast to the diocese administrator produced misinformation)

I'm no newbie on this or other trad topics, but until now I've never had an SSPX anywhere even vaguely in the area, so I would really appreciate any correction, tips, etc.

If I have understood the topic of SSPX chapels from the viewpoint of the laity, I believe it boils down to three topics:

1. Sunday/Holy Day Obligation

2. Confession

3. Marriages

And my understanding is that the laity is covered on all three.  I mucked about to pull what I think are three solid articles in reference, here:

1. Sunday Obligation: https://wdtprs.com/2020/04/ask-father-whats-the-truth-about-the-sspx/

2. Confession: https://sspx.org/en/news-events/news/communique-misericordia-et-misera

3. Marriages: https://www.ncregister.com/news/pope-francis-approval-of-sspx-marriages-offers-hopeful-step-to-unity

Anything help, correction, tips, would be greatly appreciated!

Kathleen,
your list of references if pretty good; If there are people who come to the TLM for the first time, then maybe have some papers ready that explain the TLM, and maybe also small booklets with the text of the Mass in it.
For further questions, cross that bridge when you come to it. I'm sure that the SSPX priest will be able to help out.

Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit."
