He died today. Converted to Catholicism after he married a Catholic gal.

16 consecutive golden gloves at third base. Back when Baseball was "pride" free.

"From the moment we awake in the morning, let us pray continually in the words of holy David: Turn away my eyes, that they may not behold vanity"
St Alphonsus

"I will set my face against you, and you shall fall down before your enemies, and shall be made subject to them that hate you, you shall flee when no man pursueth you"
Leviticus 26:17

"Behold, O God our protector : and look upon the face of Thy Christ" (Ps. 79:20) Here is devotion to the face of Jesus Christ as prophesized by David."

Just glanced over his profile on Wikipedia - seemed like a great guy.

I should get more into baseball history, it's fascinating.

Sad part is the Orioles have a World Series contender this year. Second best win % in baseball this year.

Would have been nice to see Brooks toss the first pitch in game one of the AL playoffs.

Anyhow all they need to do is win 2 or their last 6 games to win their division.

You ain't wrong. And I don't see God siding with Canada any time soon, so there goes that pipe dream.

Who you think will take it?

I'm pulling for Baltimore but they are a young team. And their best reliever is injured and may not be ready for post season.

Atlanta looks like the favorite.

I remember Brooks from his playing days; it appeared to me that absolutely no balls ever got past him, and he had a great throw to first also. I am happy to hear that he became a Catholic.
May he rest in peace.  :pray2:
"The World Must Conform to Our Lord and not He to it." Rev. Dennis Fahey CSSP

"My brothers, all of you, if you are condemned to see the triumph of evil, never applaud it. Never say to evil: you are good; to decadence: you are progess; to death: you are life. Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit." He sure stole a lot of hits from the Big Red Machine in the 1970 Series. Iirc, he also batted around .426 in the Series, which Baltimore won.

When he was at third, you couldn't get a ball past him. He was like a human vacuum cleaner. Best I ever saw at his position.
