I want to run up a mountain. With an AK, weathered gear, and plant a Crusader Cross flag at the peak.

Lydia Purpuraria

Hearing this song reminded me of Chestertonian?s recent post about his wife and family just sitting and being with each other, and God, etc.   I don?t know, I guess the image that post evoked for me of his loving close-knit Catholic family made the song seem like a sort of ?Chestertonian Family Theme Song? or something!  (Am I being too corny, Chestertonian?  :-\  And hopefully you don?t find that song terrible to listen to?nor anyone else!)

Okay, okay ... anyway, it warmed my heart and made me want to post despite any potential corniness or offensiveness it may be perceived as by others.

I almost hate to post this after Lydia's sweet post above.  Almost.  I think I've found the Chastisement Anthem. Glorious crescendo and all.  Some of the lyrics just made me think of some of the recent comments about it.

I adore Thee O Christ, and I bless Thee, because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world!

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph save souls!

Let the Lord take care of those whom you think have harmed you. All you have to do is love and forgive. Try to forget and leave all else to the Master."– Mother Angelica

Everyone knows this song, but this was one of my favorite songs about heartbreak. And my favorite Otis song. Otis died young. Please don't make me stop now.

When I was fourteen I made a tape of "the saddest songs" to listen to on aimless lovelorn bike rides, and this song was on it.  It's not a song about heartbreak and there's even laughing in the outro, but it has a mournful beauty.  The organ and the gently weeping guitar.  The lyrics are suitably cryptic and as far as I'm concerned they're some of the best lyrics David Bowie ever wrote.  I especially like the line, "my brother's back at home with his Beatles and his Stones," because that was me at the time.  I would waste whole afternoons in solitude lying on the living room floor, playing Beatles and Rolling Stones records, staring at the ceiling and thinking about a girl.  It came out the same year I was born, and by the time I discovered it the cultural references were passé, like T Rex and kids in glitter boots and flaired trousers.  But it transcends its era.  This song has so much nostalgia value for me I sometimes can't take it.

This is a Spanish pop song called "Inevitable". My younger brother used to listen to the old Shakira songs in Spanish. And this was my favorite of her songs. I don't know what the words are about and I don't want to know. I may have been told a long time ago that the song was about infidelity, but I do not know what the words actually mean. I really like the song, especially the chorus.
