Migrate to Linux

First off, Windows now installs all sorts of malware that spies on you and sends info to third party sites.

They are also going to subscription based software that you don't own, like Office 365.  Which means you get billed every year.  Don't pay, can't access you files.

Now Adobe is in on the act:

QuoteThis is nuts.
@Photoshop

@Adobe
 software if you make stuff they don't like. Of course they say "for legal purposes" but we all know it is to feed their machine AI and keep you from making wrong-think.

If you have no Linux experience, it's easy.  Get Linux Mint, which is designed to look like Windows.  I recommend using the Brave Browser on Mint, but Firefox is ok.

It should come pre-installed with Open Office and Thunderbird for email.

The spying and police state antics of Big Tech are only going to get worse.  Get out early and install Linux.

If you care about privacy, Linux is the only option you have, aside from not using a computer at all. You'll have to give up some comfort of familiar software, but there are decent alternatives for everything on Linux, and most of it costs nothing. As with any major change in life, it will take some time to get used to it (the better you are with Windows the harder it will be to switch), but it's well worth it in the long run.

QuoteLinux is the only option you have

I'm kind of tempted to get a computer up and running on FreeBSD.  Nice operating system on my firewall.

I've already moved to non-systemd linux.

None of this matters for new people.  Just load Mint and you eliminate the spying.

When do you expect this to happen?

I use pclinuxos. It is as easy to use as Mint and no systemd.

I've ordered cd's from both of these

Windows is evil and terrible. They now have AI spying on you.

Who tf puts ads on an operating system?

It's good, and what I use, but it's tied to the hardware which a lot of people cannot overcome

Windows - spyware
Mac - tied to hardware
Linux - too difficult and "esoteric" for most

I've already seen it happen with Adobe.

I use Debian. I like this distro, is solid as a rock and very customizable.  And a virtual machine for Windows things.

I don't like rolling release distros so I discard Arch Linux and similars. I think Debian is the best option for me.

QuoteLinux - too difficult and "esoteric" for most

I've been on Linux for over 20 years, so maybe my view is wrong.  However it looks like Mint, and PCLINUXOS are designed to look and act like Windows.

MLG above recommends PCLINUXOS and says it is easy to use.

I actually find the Linux Office applications easier to use than Microsoft Office apps at work.  On MS Office, if the function is not listed under a right-click, good luck trying to find it in their goofy menus.

There are a number of distro's that are really easy to use.  Also to install- just requires putting in a disc and following instructions  I think that a lot of times people think it is more complicated than it really is.
