I watched Spotlight this past week. It wasn't as anti-Catholic as I thought it would be. I remember when all that came out. My mom had just filed for divorce, 9-11 had recently happened, then JPII died a few years later. It felt like the world was falling apart. I'm glad it didn't.  :) And I am glad to say I do feel safe with my kids in church. You need a background check to even join the choir now. I don't think that's a bad thing.

The Passion of Joan of Arc. I need to watch it more. So much great symbolism.

Was it any good

No.  It was pretty lousy.  The casting was atrocious.  Joseph Fiennes was the only good choice, but the script gave him little to do.  If you're making a movie about a Roman skeptic, it would behoove you to make the tension between faith and doubt really palpable.  Give the character an intellect, imbue him with some snippets of Stoic or Epicurean philosophy which even a tribune would plausibly have.  It was devoid of substance.  I rated it two stars on Netflix: "did not like it."

I agree with Older Salt's review in the other thread.

Carleendiane

Paladin. Old series on TV. Gunfighter for just causes.
To board the struggle bus: no whining, board with a smile, a fake one will be found out and put off at next stop, no maps, no directions, going only one way, one destination. Follow all rules and you will arrive. Drop off at pearly gate. Bring nothing.

Lethal Weapon. So weird to see Murtaugh played by a black man.
The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
    It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
    It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
    And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
    And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
    There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
    Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
    World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.
