I am very fortunate, for I have never heard the "eagles wings" song before

I can fix that for you if you want...

Not trying to be funny, but I get the feeling that if I make it to purgatory then I'll hear my fair share of bad church music.

Those tortures are reserved for the deepest levels of hell.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.

What movie is this?

I could tell just by the still on the preview that it's from Kenneth Branagh's 1989 adaptation of Shakespeare's Henry V. One of my favorites. "Let there be sung Non Nobis and Te Deum."

Full in the Panting Heart of Rome

I used to have a lot of pride for this hymn but my admiration for it has waned over the years.  :-\

"Hold firmly that our faith is identical with that of the ancients. Deny this, and you dissolve the unity of the Church."
--St. Thomas Aquinas

"Neither the true faith nor eternal salvation is to be found outside the Holy Catholic Church."
--Pope Pius IX

"That the Conciliar Church is a schismatic Church, because it breaks with the Catholic Church that has always been. It has its new dogmas, its new priesthood, its new institutions, its new worship, all already condemned by the Church in many a document, official and definitive."
--Archbishop Lefebvre

Heliocentricism is idiocy.

I love this Marian hymn used in the offertory several times. It was very moving, especially after a very intense sermon by my SSPX priest on the modern world which lasted only 5 minutes but in which he mentioned hell 15 times.

My favorite non-chant hymn melody is probably "Thaxted", which is set to a number of different lyrics like "O God, Beyond All Praising". This version below is set to the patriotic song "I Vow to Thee, My Country":

Dunno, I like that tune as it appears in the Planets suite - as God intended. Why, whenever someone writes a stirring melody, do they always have to tarnish it by turning it into a cheesy piece of nationalism?  Anyway, sorry to rain on your parade - it is a marvellous tune.  :toth:

I like Salve Mater Misericordiæ. It is an 11th century Carmelite hymn.

Some of my favourite hymns are from a living composer. Now hold on a minute, before you skip past this post - his music is tonal and tuneful.  It is - mercy of mercies - entirely non-horrible and sure to pass the old grey whistle test with flying colours. Probably because he is a fellow true Catholic who loves God and does not wish to offend him through discordant cacophonies. Unfortunately this video doesn't have his other Ave Maria setting, which is amongst the most beautiful I've heard. But it does have his Felix Namque Es and Panis Angelicus which are both amazing.

Wicked Papist

"Faith of Our Fathers," as long as it's not the one with the syrupy "we are all God's children" verses.

And he will raise you up, on eagles wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand...

Indeed, the true friends of the people are neither revolutionaries, nor innovators: they are traditionalists. - Saint Pius X
