The X-Files poll has arrived.

I wonder what marks "true fan" from "fan"?

For some reason, as a child, I was a big fan of the show?  Still a fan, just surprised at how young I was when I watched it first.

A true fan would not ask this.

I did not want to use stronger language like "love" or "diehard fan", etc.

I want to believe?

The Curt Jester

I never saw more than about five minutes of it.
The royal feast was done; the King
Sought some new sport to banish care,
And to his jester cried: "Sir Fool,
Kneel now, and make for us a prayer!"

The jester doffed his cap and bells,
And stood the mocking court before;
They could not see the bitter smile
Behind the painted grin he wore.

He bowed his head, and bent his knee
Upon the Monarch's silken stool;
His pleading voice arose: "O Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!"

I watched every episode of the X files one summer as a child. So, given the choice, I would have voted for every one of your options, but picked "I want to believe".

This episode haunted and completely terrified me up until a few years ago when I discovered that "Epsom salt" is not salt at all, it is magnesium. #heshouldhavelived

I texted my siblings to inform them of this in case they too were living in fear. None of them even remembered that episode and none of them were afraid of baths. Unbelievable.

Apparently this episode was described by reviewers as

"just plain bad" and "a famously bad episode of The X-Files."

Some people have no appreciation for cinema.

This show still gives me nightmares and daymares and every kind of phobia.

I first watched it on a streaming service years ago when such things were pretty new. There was an episode I thought was very good, almost cinematic, and had a great sound track.

Later, when I read about it, it turns out, that episode was notorious for being disturbing.

I just thought it was a very good standalone episode.

(Of course, I watched it well after becoming an adult, so I have no idea how the show would affect people developmentally.)

If Bishop Williamson rightfully says that the sound of music is soul rotting slush, do we even need to wonder what he would say about "the x-files"?  Aliens do not exist.  They are a diabolical construct.  If you spend your time on earth staring at satan in any of his many forms, don't expect to recognize God when the time comes requiring.
For the stone shall cry out of the wall; and the timber that is between the joints of the building, shall answer.  Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and prepareth a city by iniquity. - Habacuc 2,11-12

South Park?

There is imperfection surely in most entertainment, but holding others to perfection should be done very sparingly if at all.

Yes, there are enough worldly things that are hard to give up, because they improve our life on a certain level, so we should take advantage of the easy ones that do nothing for us.

It's hard to give up reading Tolstoy because it makes you snobby. It's not hard to give up the X-files.
It's hard to give up nice, expensive clothes for a simpler life. It's not hard to give up jeans.
It's hard to give up exotic food and "be content with simple diet". It's not hard to give up Oreos.

This is the disadvantage of giving up the use of the word "I".  One states one's personal opinions as if they were general facts.  Presumably, there are any number of people for whom the above statements are not true.

Leaving out "I" does not make one's posts any less self-centered, only less clear and less true.

I started watching the show after seeing this thread, I enjoy 90's nostalgia although I was too young to really watch it when it was on. Good show though.

Maybe I should watch the entire series for once. I usually would not care to commit that kind of time to such an unproductive thing deliberately, but the more I use the forum, the more video games and TV shows seem good for some reason.
