Title: Christmas Dinner
Post by: verenaerin on December 17, 2014, 04:05:56 PM
What is your menu?

I am doing mini beef wellingtons. They are actually pretty easy and you make them the day before and then they sit over night. Also their baking time isn't very long.

-garlic mashed potatoes
-green beans

I don't know what else. Still thinking about it.

My husband is smoking a half turkey.  I'll do the trimmings: rice dressing, salad, homemade Mac n cheese, and either green beans wrapped in bacon or sausage stuffed jalapeƱos.....maybe both....it's Christmas, after all.  Wine, home brew, and cranberry spritzers for the underage crowd

My work gives me a case of wine and a free ham for Christmas, so we will be having those (not the whole case). In addition, we will be having green beans, eggplant parm (Wife is vegetarian) and these bad boys...

Looks yummy!

My mom's side of the family makes pierogi, kielbasa, ham, scalloped potatoes.... Pretty much any combination of pork and potatoes you can think of.

My husband is making pot roast at my parents' house. Sides include carrots, potatoes, broccoli casserole, corn, and maybe green beans amandine.

Ham, mashed potatoes with ham gravy, some sides of some kind (still working on that part), and dessert (probably pie or bread pudding).

It's still up in the air for us. My sister's not getting here until Christmas night, so we'll be eating the official dinner on St. Stephen's Day.

It's a team effort at my grandma's.

Roast beef and mashed potatoes.  Not sure what the other sides are.

Here's the link to the recipe for Hasselback Gratin. it's another one from Kenji at Serious Eats (he's the one who deconstructed the McD's french fry, Chick Fil A sandwich, etc.) The photo in the above isn't mine, but I've made them once and yes-they do turn out like that.

As in bread rolls, Zork?

Ours will be turkey for AF and me, with nut roast for the rest of the family, roast potatoes, roast parsnip, carrots, sprouts, chestnuts, cranberry sauce, gravey, then Christmas pudding and brandy cream or in my case soya cream. Coffee and chocolate mint crisps to finish, if anyone has room.

Yes, bread rolls, Rose. Bread is perhaps my favorite food of all.

My family's Christmas dinner is usually very carb-heavy. (I've only listed the things I intend to eat, and so I'm eating less than in previous years.) There will also be either stuffing or potatoes, salad (forgot to list that above), as well as some odd stuff I don't know the name of and never eat anyway.  ;D

Every year I purchase a Yule Log cake from a European-specialty bakery for the dessert.

For beverages we have beer, wine and sparkling cider.

Whatever people bring.   I could make a guess as to some of the food, but I couldn't be sure.  Nobody has told me so far.

In case nobody guessed, I don't do the cooking.

Ham, mashed potatoes (only enough for those who don't like sweet potatoes), sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn, chocolate mousse pie, rolls, and one more dessert that I haven't decided on.  Kids aren't old enough for alcohol, so I will break out my favorite cranberry soda and make some iced tea and hot cocoa for pie an cookies later.

But I would imagine you do provide the musical entertainment. Right?

Christmas is long gone and I missed this...

But to answer, yes, I do play some Christmas hymns and other music.    Nobody really listens, but I play.
