You take solace in the thought that WW2 ended what was left of Christian civilization in Europe and ushered in a new era of liberalism and rapid de-Christianization?

Russian troops are fighting in the special protective zone that encircles the remnants of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Nations have worked for decades to contain the 1986 disaster, which was so severe that some areas may not support human life for another century.

A particular concern is a billion-dollar containment dome erected in 2016 to contain the nuclear reactor that exploded and spewed fallout for miles.

UC San Francisco's Lydia Zablotska, a radiation expert who grew up in Ukraine, told Insider before Thursday's reported attacks that the zone remains "the most contaminated place" on earth.

"No one should go into those areas," Zablotska said. "It's dangerous for a reason. A number of studies both in humans and animals and from different branches of science say it's dangerous, unadvisable and no one should go into that area."

The Ukrainian military are burning Defense records in Kyiv. It all looks a bit fall of Berlin, even the only Russians are distant. Russian helicopters attacking, some getting shot down. Russia has Chernobyl (maybe they could restart the other reactors which operated satisfactorily for years after the incident). Putin appears to be making barely veiled threats of nuclear war article. Sanctions came out.  Not much.  This line stands out.  Don't know what "limited" means.  Likely a carve out for Europe to pay for oil and gas.  The problem is that the Russians will want to do something with those Euros.  If that gets cut off, then the Russians will not want to sell oil and gas.  They'll have a work around set up that you won't know about.

Russian Forces Seize Chernobyl Nuclear Plant; Kremlin Willing To Talk Kiev's "Terms Of Surrender"

Update(1:49pmET): Ukraine's government has confirmed that the Chernobyl power plant site has been seized by Russian forces. "The Prime Minister made the announcement in a televised briefing, saying Russian troops had taken control of the zone and the nuclear power plant," Bloomberg confirms.

"The facility is located about 80 miles (129km) north of Kyiv, several miles south of the Belarus border. Holding Chernobyl would provide Russian troops a staging point that couldn’t be shelled," the report adds, in reference to the potential for dangerous radioactive fallout given the permanent presence of nuclear waste there.

Russian state media is in the evening Thursday (local time) citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to say that Moscow is offering Kiev "terms of surrender". Meanwhile...
