Hair sends a message about personality, not morality.

Modesty is a moral virtue.

It sounds like a feedback loop.

QuoteWhat should we as Catholics think about this never-cutting-hair business?

It is odd as a prescription.

I do not cut my hair at all, and it is somewhat notable for others (although I do not think about it much), because I have no reason to do so.

I have, in the absence of anything externally binding, chosen to try not to do anything without a good reason, and all the reasons would not be good.

Modesty is a moral virtue.

I never said it wasn't. It's hard to call hair modest or immodest, however. I would say it is most often morally neutral.

Yes, you did.

Modesty regulates external actions. It is not just about inspiring lust in others.

You see that hair does indicate more than just externals, but you mistake it for "personality". I suppose it does that, but all human acts (acts done by our will) do reflect our interior state, the state of our soul, and Modesty is the key virtue for this.

So yes, hair has a very definite relation to morality. It is not a certain style means a certain thing, but much more profound.

All human acts should be governed by virtue. If not, then they are governed by vice.

If you truly believe hair styles are related to morality, you may be suffering from scruples and you should talk to a priest.

You have absolutely no basis for giving me any spiritual advice on "scruples".

Everything is related to morality, and everything we do should be considered as to its effects on our relationship with God.

Modesty is the virtue which should be exercised in how one treats one's hair.

Replacing moral guidance with personality tests is not suitable for Catholics.
