kneeling for a blessing

Why do we kneel when a priest blesses us? I just copy those around me because I'm still ignorant on some trad things.

My guess as a sign of submission to someone in spiritual authority over us.

Ha. Umm.... well, in Biblical Hebrew, so I've read, the word for "bless" is barak, which also literally means "kneel". Blessing and kneeling were very strongly associated with one another: http://www.ancient-hebrew.org/12_blessing.html


One reason we should kneel for a blessing is because the priest is doing a very real thing, calling on God's grace in a special way upon the individual. Kneeling is a recognition of God's special presence in that act.
