I used to wear hats occasionally but I haven't in a few years now. Veils go with everything, but hats always seem like they have to be matched to your outfit. I always used to worry that they would fall off my head at Communion.

Styles change. The norm in trad circles is veils.

I like my veils. I have about six, and three scarves. That way I'm always matching and can mix things up. Not to trash people who religiously wear the same veil for eons... It's just fun to have a variety. Hats are nice also, and I look fairly decent in them. But unless you get white or beige you're a bit limited. I have two "Kate Middleton" hats (one in hot pink and the other is white) but it seems that summer is the only appropriate time to wear them.  And as for showing off... I always dress my best when attending the King's Court. (Oh that was syrupy....)

Solely for aesthetic reasons, I prefer my girlfriend to wear a hat. In fact, I bought her a black cloche hat which goes well with most things. Wear something like this to church and you'll be good to go.

I also bought her a black snood with a gold trim, which she seems to prefer over my hat. The snood is probably the best of all forms from a rigorist point of view, since if the idea is to cover the hair because it's the glory of the woman, the snood contains and covers all of it. Hats and sheer veils don't really do that.

You know what else was "the norm"? White wedding dresses... and we know how you feel about that topic...

A man who chooses the name Katyn... even on the Internet, I just can't see it.

I prefer to see veils rather than hats because there is no temptation for the women to get into hat wars. But mostly because veils leave no doubts to the congregation and Satan that here are women who are traditional Catholics and proud of it.

On the other hand, I'd be happy to see either hats or veils on the heads of all the defiantly bareheaded women at the TLM each week.

Newsflash: female vanity can also encompass veils.

I wore my new brown hat to Mass today. I definitely won't be switching over to hats permanently, but I think I like hats, too. It'll be nice to mix it up every now and then. I also might just start wearing hats more in general. My fiance likes the way they look on me and I'm starting to think it's a shame that as a society, we've all decided to abandon hats and walk around bare-headed all the time.

I agree with your man.

Also, pictures of your hat?  Or did I miss that?
