Some thoughts:

1. One could caption those Boer militia men as Confederates and get away with it;
2. Churchill. What a beast;
3. In the vein of fighting on one's ground, inter alia the invasion of the Confederacy and the incipient, decisive routs of the Yankees, history creates parallels. Eventually, as the scrappy skeletons wore down, the empires resorted to dirty tactics to finish them off: concentration camps, scorched earth destruction.
